Kopáčsky Ostrov
Kopáčsky ostrov is a nature reserve in the Podunajské Biskupice district of Bratislava, Slovakia. The nature reserve covers an area of 82.62 ha on the left shore of the Danube. It has a protection level of 5 (the highest) under the Slovak nature protection system. The nature reserve is part of the Dunajské luhy Protected Landscape Area. Description The area was declared as a protected area with the goal to protect a mosaic of steppe, forest-steppe and floodplain forest communities. It is used for scientific research and educational purposes. Podunajské Biskupice () (1927–1944 ''Biskupice pri Dunaji'', before 1927 ''Biskupice'') is a borough of Bratislava. It is the largest borough in the terms of area in Bratislava. History The first written account of Podunajské Biskupice dates to the 13th century; its church is mentioned in 1221. Biskupice were part of the property of the Esztergom, Estergom archbishopric. Based on this name, some authors infer the existence of an Avars (Caucasus), Avar bishopric in the area of today's Biskupice, as there were different words for archbishopric and bishopric in Latin and in Old Hungarian language, Old Hungarian. The territory of the Christian Avar bishopric and includes the area from Nezider, Lake Nezider to the vicinity of Biskupice and the river Ráb. Dunajské Luhy Protected Landscape Area
Dunajské luhy Protected Landscape Area (; verbatim: Danube Floodplains PLA) is one of the youngest of the 14 protected landscape areas in Slovakia. The Landscape Area consists of five separate parts in the Danube Lowland, stretching from Bratislava in the north west, following the Danube and the borders between Slovakia and Hungary to a river island called ''Veľkolélsky ostrov'' in Komárno District. The biggest part is Žitný ostrov, the largest river island in Europe. The area is situated in three regions – Bratislava, Trnava Region, Trnava and Nitra Region, Nitra. Altogether, it protects 122.84 km2 (47.43 mi2) of floodplains, wetlands and numerous water bodies, such as lakes, oxbow lakes, ponds, and streams. Orchis Militaris
''Orchis militaris'', the military orchid, is a species of orchid native to Europe. It is the type species of the genus ''Orchis''. Description This plant grows to a height of 20 to 50 cm with a robust stem with rather drawn up oblong basal leaves. The inflorescence forms a purplish dense cone consisting of from 10 to 40 flowers. In each flower the sepals and side petals are gathered together to form a pointed "helmet" (whence it gets its name), a lilac colour outside and a veined purple colour inside. ''Anacamptis coriophora'', the bug orchid, is a species of orchid, found in Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Near East to Iran. Anacamptis Morio
''Anacamptis morio'', the green-winged orchid or green-veined orchid (synonym ''Orchis morio''), is a flowering plant of the orchid family, Orchidaceae. It usually has purple flowers, and is found in Europe, Northern Africa and western Asia. Description It flowers from late April to June in the British Isles, and as early as February in other countries, such as France. The inflorescence is of various colours, mainly purple but ranging from white, through pink, to deep purple. From 5 to 25 helmet-shaped flowers grow in a loose, linear bunch at the top of the single stalk. A pair of lateral sepals with prominent green, occasionally purple veins extend laterally like "wings", giving the orchid its name.
