Koper
Koper (; ) is the List of cities and towns in Slovenia, fifth-largest city in Slovenia. Located in the Slovenian Istria, Istrian region in the southwestern part of the country, Koper is the main urban center of the Slovene coast. Port of Koper is the country's only container port and a major contributor to the economy of the City Municipality of Koper, Municipality of Koper. The city is a destination for a number of Mediterranean cruising lines. Koper is also one of the main road entry points into Slovenia from Italy, which lies to the north of the municipality. The main motorway crossing is at Spodnje Škofije to the north of the city of Koper. The motorway continues into Rabuiese and Trieste. City Municipality Of Koper
The Urban Municipality of Koper (; , ) is one of twelve urban municipalities of Slovenia. It is located at the coastline of the Adriatic Sea in southwestern Slovenia and was established in 1994. The seat of the municipality is the town of Koper. Since 1995, the area has been part of the Coastal–Karst Statistical Region. Coastal–Karst Statistical Region
The Coastal–Karst Statistical Region (, ) is a statistical region in southwest Slovenia. It covers the traditional and historical regions of Slovenian Istria and most of the Karst Plateau, which traditionally belonged to the County of Gorizia and Gradisca. The region has a sub-Mediterranean climate and is Slovenia's only statistical region bordering the sea. Its natural features enable the development of tourism, transport, and special agricultural crops. More than two-thirds of gross value added are generated by services (trade, accommodation, and transport); most was generated by activities at the Port of Koper and through seaside and spa tourism. The Loggia Palace () is a Venetian Gothic palace in Koper, a port town in southwestern Slovenia. It is the only preserved Gothic town hall in Slovenia. Spodnje Škofije (; locally also ''Prva Škofija'', ; former Italian name: ''Albaro Vescovà'') is a settlement in the City Municipality of Koper in the Littoral region of Slovenia. Da Ponte Fountain
The Da Ponte Fountain (; ) is a fountain in the city of Koper, in southwestern Slovenia. It is located at Prešeren Square (), formerly known as Muda Square. History A subaquatic aqueduct connected the island of Koper to the mainland as early as the end of the 14th century. By the 16th century, the 10,000 inhabitants of the city were facing a water shortage, rainwater cisterns having become inadequate. In the 17th century, Niccolò Manzuoli recorded the city water supply, noting that a 2-mile distant spring at Colonna was piped to the island via wooden underwater tubes, some of which have been unearthed during excavations by modern archeologists. Praetorian Palace
The Praetorian Palace (, ) is a 15th-century Venetian Gothic architecture, Venetian Gothic palace in the city of Koper, in southwest Slovenia. Located on the southern side of the city's central Josip Broz Tito, Tito Square (at ''Titov trg/piazza Tito 3''), it houses the Koper city government and a wedding hall. It is considered one of the city's architectural landmarks. History An earlier municipal hall existed on the same site by 1254, before the square itself (then called the ''Platei Comunis'', established around 1268.)
