Koleje Śląskie
Koleje Śląskie (Polish for Silesian Railways; KŚ) is a regional rail operator in the Silesian Voivodeship of Poland. The company was founded in 2010 and is fully owned by the local government. It started servicing in October 2011. Railways in Poland in the second half of the 20th century and at the beginning of the 21st century Contrary to appearances, rail transport did not play a key role in the country's economic policy after 1945. Therefore, despite intensive industrial development, including heavy industry, a significant increase in coal mining and military needs, over the years the underinvestment in the Polish State Railways (''Polskie Koleje Państwowe – PKP'') – the key railway operator and carrier in Poland – became increasingly apparent. Pszczyna
Pszczyna (, ) is a town in Silesia Province in Poland, with a population of 25,823 (2019), and is the seat of a local gmina (commune) and district. It was previously part of Katowice Province from 1975 until 1998 administrative reforms. Etymology There are several different theories of the origins of the name ''Pszczyna''. Ezechiel Zivier (1868–1925) hypothesized that the land was first owned by Pleszko (alternatively Leszko, or possibly Leszek, Duke of Racibórz). Polish scholar Aleksander Brückner in turn explained the name based on its old spelling ''Plszczyna'', from the ancient Polish word ''pło'' or ''pleso'' meaning a lake, making ''Plszczyna'' a place by a lake. Brückner's derivation, suggesting a marshy lakeside, based on Proto-Slavic ''plszczyna'', is generally accepted in literature. Częstochowa ( , ) is a city in southern Poland on the Warta with 214,342 inhabitants, making it the thirteenth-largest city in Poland. It is situated in the Silesian Voivodeship. Sucha Beskidzka
Sucha Beskidzka (before 1961 called only ''Sucha'') is a town in the Żywiec Beskids mountain range in southern Poland, on the Skawa river. It is the county seat of Sucha County. It has been in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship since 1999; previously it was in Bielsko-Biała Voivodeship (1975–1998). Żywiec
Żywiec () is a town on the River Soła in southern Poland with 31,194 inhabitants (2019). It is situated within the Silesian Voivodeship, near the Żywiec Lake and Żywiec Landscape Park, one of the eight protected areas in the voivodeship. Chorzew Siemkowice Railway Station
Chorzew Siemkowice is a Polish rail junction located in the Pajęczno County of the Łódź Voivodeship, in the central part of Poland. It is located on the route of the Polish Coal Trunk-Line, and also is the terminal station of the Częstochowa - Chorzew Siemkowice line. It is named for two nearby villages located near the station, Chorzew and Siemkowice. History The station opened in 1933 as part of the Coal Trunk Line. Herby Nowe Railway Station
Herby Nowe is a railway station serving the town of Herby, located north of the Upper Silesian Industrial Area, along the Polish Coal Trunk-Line, in the Lubliniec County of the Silesian Voivodeship. By the station, which was opened in 1926, there is a whole district of condominiums and houses, built for the workers of the Polish State Railways and their families. The EuroSprinter family of electric locomotives is a modular concept of locomotives for the European market built by Siemens Mobility. The internal Siemens product name is ES 64, with ES for EuroSprinter and the number 64 indicating the 6,400 kW power at rail. Additional information is given in the name on the usage (U as universal, P as prototype and F as freight) and on the number of electric power systems supported (e. g. 2 as two types, 4 as all four systems commonly used in Europe).
