Koidu
Koidu Town (or Sefadu; officially known as Koidu City) is the capital and largest city of the Kono District in the Eastern Province, Sierra Leone, Eastern Province of Sierra Leone. Its population is 128,030 based on the 2015 census. It is the fifth largest city in Sierra Leone by population, after Freetown, Kenema, Bo, Sierra Leone, Bo and Makeni. It lies approximately 280 miles east of Freetown, and about 60 miles north of Kenema. Koidu Town is a major Urban area, urban, business, commerce, commercial and diamond trade center. Two of the world's ten largest and most famous rough diamonds were found in the Woyie River that flows through Koidu Town. The mayor of Koidu City and members of the Koidu-New Sembehun city council are directly elected every four years. Koidu Limited a subsidiary of OCTÉA Limited, is a locally registered Company in the Republic of Sierra Leone. History Formation After a JV was formed on 1 June 2002 Koidu Limited acquired the remainder of the 20 -year mining lease agreement originally signed in 1995.  After the second successful post-war democratic election in 2007, the Government of Sierra Leone undertook to review all mining agreements in the country. Kono District
Kono District is a district in the Eastern Province of Sierra Leone. Its capital and largest city is Koidu Town. Motema is the second most populous city in the district. Alhaji Samuel Sidique Sam-Sumana (born April 7, 1962) is a Sierra Leonean politician who was the Vice President of Sierra Leone from September 17, 2007, to March 17, 2015. Sam-Sumana stood as the vice-presidential candidate of the All People's Congress (APC) in the 2007 presidential election, alongside presidential candidate Ernest Bai Koroma. Fatima Maada Bio (née Jabbe; born 27 November 1980), known simply as Fatima Bio, is a Sierra Leonean former actress, screenwriter and film producer who has served in the role of first lady of Sierra Leone, as the wife of President Julius Maada Bio since 2018.
