Knut Næss
Knut Næss (11 March 1927 – 11 September 2015) was a Norwegian footballer and manager who coached Rosenborg BK to the club's first three major trophies: the Norwegian Cup in 1960 and 1964, and the 1967 League Championship. Næss joined Rosenborg in 1937 and spent his entire player career there, except during World War II when he played for an illegal team called "Falkenkameratene" at a time when all organized football in Norway was suspended because of the wartime sports boycott which lasted from 1941 until the end of the war. He played around 200 games for Rosenborg as a left half (midfielder), and also was their captain. He had to retire in 1960 due to an injury. In the 1959-60 season Næss coached Rosenborg, with fellow player Olav Wang as his assistant, and secured both victory in the 1960 Norwegian Cup (the first club from Trøndelag to do so) as well as the club's first-ever promotion to the top division. Norwegian Main League
Eliteserien () is a professional association football league in Norway and the highest level of the Norwegian football league system. Contested by 16 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Norwegian First Division. Seasons run from March to November with each team playing 30 matches (playing each other home and away). Most games are played on Sunday evenings. Eliteserien was founded in 1937 as Norgesserien (), and the first season was the 1937–38 season. George Curtis (footballer, Born 1919)
George Frederick Curtis (3 December 1919 – 17 November 2004) was an English professional footballer and coach, who played as an inside forward. Playing career Arsenal Curtis played as a youth for Anglo (Purfleet) before signing for Arsenal in December 1936. He spent over a year at Arsenal's nursery club, Margate, before returning to Highbury in February 1938; he made his Arsenal debut in a 2–1 win at Highbury against Blackpool on 10 April 1939. He went on to make only one other first team appearance during that season. World War II intervened that September and he spent the war serving in the Royal Air Force stationed in India, but also played over 50 wartime matches for Arsenal. He also appeared as a guest player for West Ham United later in World War II. After hostilities ended he played 12 times in the 1946–47 season, but was sold to Southampton in part-exchange for Don Roper in summer 1947; in all he played 14 times for the Gunners, never scoring. The 1968 1. divisjon was the 24th completed season of top division football in Norway. Overview It was contested by 10 teams, and Lyn from Oslo won the championship, their second title. Lyn's 28 points was at the time a record for most points in a season, one more than Vålerengen achieved in the 1965 season. Frigg and Vålerengen were relegated to the 1969 2. divisjon. Odd Iversen of Rosenborg scored 30 goals this season, which as of the start of the 2019 season is still a league record. On 20 October, Iversen scored six goals in Rosenborg's 7–2 win against Vålerengen. That is still a joint league record for most goals scored in one game, an achievement Jan Fuglset copied in 1976.
