Kjersti Stubø
Kjersti Aasan Stubø (born 25 April 1970) is a Norwegian jazz musician vocalist, daughter and musical successor of Jazz guitarist Thorgeir Stubø (1943–1986), mother of elektronica musician Mathias Stubø (b. 1992), and sister of Jazz guitarist Håvard and theatre director Eirik Stubø. Career Stubø was born in Narvik, and studied jazz on the jazz program at the Trondheim Music Conservatory (1991–93). Aged 14 she performed with her father, Thorgeir, who died from cancer two years later. During her studies in Trondheim she established her own jazz orchestra ''Kjersti Stubø Band'' in 1991. Co-musicians on this project were Vigleik Storaas (piano), Tore Brunborg (saxophones), Odd Magne Gridseth (bass) and Ernst-Wiggo Sandbakk (drums). With a different lineup Vigleik Storaas (piano), Olaf Kamfjord (bass) and Per Oddvar Johansen (drums), she released an album in 2001. Narvik (town)
or is a List of towns and cities in Norway, town and the administrative centre of Narvik Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The town is located along the Ofotfjorden in the Ofoten region. The town lies on a peninsula located between the Rombaken fjord and the Beisfjorden. The European route E06 highway runs through the Beisfjord Bridge and Hålogaland Bridge crossing the two small fjords surrounding the town. Olaf Kamfjord
Olaf Kamfjord (born December 8, 1962, in Tønsberg, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz musician (double bass and guitar bass) and composer, known from co-operations within bands like " Ab und Zu", "Herrene i haven", "Out To Lunch" and "Roy Nikolaisen Quartet". Career Kamfjord was only 15 years of age when he started to play in a local trio in Tønsberg, led by guitarist Lars Martin Myhre, that later included singer Kari Astrup (Myhre/Astrup kvartett 1980–85). He participated in the "Amatørstorbandet" at Kongsberg Jazz Festival in 1981 and sat in with bands from Oslo the year after. Kamfjord joined the Anne Marie Giørtz Quintet (1982–87), with several festival gigs and album releases, "Breaking out" (1983) and "Tigers of pain" (1985). Palle Mikkelborg
Palle Mikkelborg (born 6 March 1941) is a Danish jazz trumpet player, composer, arranger and record producer. He is self-taught on the trumpet, although he studied conducting at the Royal Music Conservatory in Copenhagen. He became a professional musician in 1960 and joined the Danish Radiojazzgruppen three years later. Mikkelborg became their leader in 1967 and retained that position until 1972. In addition, he was a member of the Radioens Big Band over a similar time frame. He played trumpet in both, but also wrote, arranged, and conducted both. Forming a jazz quintet with drummer, Alex Riel they performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival and Newport Jazz Festival (1968). He later led an octet, V8, in the 1970s, and another outfit, Entrance, from the mid-1970s until 1985. His compositions were made for various ensembles, including extended pieces for larger outfits. Jesper Lundgaard
Jesper Lundgaard (born 12 June 1954) is a Danish jazz bassist, bandleader, composer and record producer. Since his debut in the mid-1970s, he has been among the most prominent bassists in Danish jazz and as a sideman he has appeared on more than 400 albums both with Danish and leading American jazz musicians. Biography Jesper Lundgaard was born in 1954 in Hillerød, Denmark. After first playing guitar for a few years, he started to play bass at age 16. In 1976 he began to study music at Århus University and the same year he became part of Århus' jazz scene when he joined Bent Eriksen's trio. Terri Lyne Carrington
Terri Lyne Carrington (born August 4, 1965) is an American jazz drummer, composer, producer, and educator. She has played with Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, Clark Terry, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Joe Sample, Al Jarreau, Yellowjackets (band), Yellowjackets, and many others. She toured with each of Hancock's musical configurations (from electric to acoustic) between 1997 and 2007. In 2007 she was appointed professor at her alma mater, Berklee College of Music, where she received an honorary doctorate in 2003. She has won three Grammy Awards, including a 2013 award for Best Jazz Instrumental Album, which established her as the first female musician to win a Grammy in this category. Bernt Rosengren
Bernt Åke Rosengren (24 December 1937 – 15 May 2023) was a Swedish jazz tenor saxophonist. His recordings earned him five Gyllene Skivan awards in Sweden over more than forty years. Biography Rosengren first played professionally at age 19, as a member of the Jazz Club 57, and two years later in 1959, he played in the Newport Jazz Band. Roman Polanski's film score composer Krzysztof Komeda used Rosengren in the performance of his jazz score for Polanski's film ''Knife in the Water'' (1962). Doug Raney (August 29, 1956 – May 1, 2016) was an American jazz guitarist. He was the son of jazz guitarist Jimmy Raney. Career Raney was born in New York City. He began to play the guitar when he was 14, beginning with rock and blues. He was given lessons by guitarist Barry Galbraith and became more interested in jazz. When he was 18, he played at a club in New York with pianist Al Haig. In 1977, he accompanied his father, jazz guitarist Jimmy Raney, in a duo. Kongsberg Jazz Festival or Kongsberg Jazzfestival is an international jazz festival that has been held annually in Kongsberg, Norway, since 1964. Herbie Hancock
Herbert Jeffrey Hancock (born April 12, 1940) is an American jazz musician, bandleader, and composer. He started his career with trumpeter Donald Byrd's group. Hancock soon joined the Miles Davis Quintet, where he helped to redefine the role of a jazz rhythm section and was one of the primary architects of the post-bop sound. In the 1970s, he experimented with jazz fusion, funk, and electro-funk, electro styles using a wide array of synthesizers and electronics. Håkon Mjåset Johansen (born 1 August 1975 in Trondheim, Norway) is a Norwegians, Norwegian jazz musician, jazz drummer and composer, known from playing with the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra featuring Chick Corea at Moldejazz 2000, cooperations with Bugge Wesseltoft's New Conceptions of Jazz, Ole Morten Vågan's Motif (band), Motif, Siri Gjære's Cricket Club and the Ola Kvernberg, Ola Kvernberg Trio.
