Kirsty Young
Kirsty Jackson Young (born 23 November 1968) is a Scottish television and radio presenter. From 2006 to 2018 she was the main presenter of BBC Radio 4's ''Desert Island Discs''. She presented ''Crimewatch'' on BBC One from 2008 to 2015. Early life Young was born in East Kilbride. She attended Cambusbarron Primary School and Stirling High School. She returned in June 2008 to officially open the school's new building. On the first episode of her first TV show she shared with viewers that she had suffered from bulimia as a teenager. In a later interview she said "It only happened for a very fleeting few months and I dealt with it myself." Young decided not to attend university. Her media career began when she became a runner and then a researcher. Career Young became a continuity announcer for BBC Radio Scotland in 1989. East Kilbride
East Kilbride (; ), sometimes referred to as EK, is the largest town in South Lanarkshire in Scotland, and the country's sixth-largest locality by population. The Time, The Place
''The Time, The Place'' was a British audience participation talk show that was produced by a number of different ITV companies, and broadcast live on ITV from 1987 to 1998. ''TTTP'' was presented by Mike Scott from 1987 to 1993 and by John Stapleton from 1991 to 1998. Henry Kelly also presented the programme for a period before Stapleton took over full time. Format The programme was developed as ITV's competition to the BBC's ''Kilroy'' morning discussion show which premiered in 1986. It differed from ''Kilroy'' in that ''Kilroy'' delved into more political and current-events-related issues, while ''TTTP'' focused on human interest topics. The programme toured the country and came from the various ITV regional studios, including Aberdeen after the Piper Alpha disaster. Towards the end of its run, the programme came from London at least three days a week to save money. Cowboy Boots
Cowboy boots are a specific style of riding boot, historically worn by cowboys. They have a high heel that is traditionally made of stacked leather, rounded to pointed toe, high shaft, and, traditionally, no lacing. Cowboy boots are normally made from cowhide leather, which may be decoratively hand-tooled, but are also sometimes made from "exotic" skins like alligator, snake, ostrich, lizard, eel, elephant, stingray, elk, buffalo, and so on. There are two basic styles of cowboy boots, western (or classic), and roper. The classic style is distinguished by a tall boot shaft, going to at least mid-calf, with an angled "cowboy" heel, usually over one inch high. Room 101 (British TV Series)
''Room 101'' is a BBC comedy television series based on the radio series of the same name, in which celebrities are invited to discuss their pet hates and persuade the host to consign those hates to oblivion in Room 101, a location whose name was inspired by the torture room in George Orwell's 1949 novel ''Nineteen Eighty-Four'' which reputedly contained "the worst thing in the world". Orwell himself named it after a meeting room in Broadcasting House where he would sit through tedious meetings. It was produced independently for the BBC by Hat Trick Productions. ''Have I Got News for You'' (''HIGNFY'') is a British television panel show, produced by Hat Trick Productions for the BBC, which premiered on 28 September 1990. The programme focuses on two teams, one usually captained by Ian Hislop and one by Paul Merton, each plus a guest panelist, answering questions on various news stories on the week prior to an episode's broadcast. However, the programme's format focuses more on the topical discussions on the subject of the news stories related to questions, and the satirical humour derived from these by the teams. This style of presentation had a profound impact on panel shows in British TV comedy, making it one of the genre's key standard-bearers. ITV Evening News
The ''ITV Evening News'' is the evening news programme produced by ITN on the British television network ITV. It airs Monday to Friday from 6:30pm usually until 7.30pm (since March 2022) though the finishing time of the bulletin can occasionally be brought forward to 7pm in cases of coverage by ITV Sport or other special programmes airing on ITV. The People Versus
''The People Versus'' was a British game show that aired on ITV from 13 August 2000 to 18 June 2002. Series 1 was hosted by Kirsty Young and Series 2 by Kaye Adams. The central format was that the questions were sent in by the viewers. Formats Series 1 For every question the contestants got correct, they won £5,000. The rules were: In each round the players were shown five questions from one of their specialist subjects. In Round One, each contestant had to attempt and answer correctly one of those five questions - "one of five to stay alive". In Round Two, on a different subject they had to answer two correctly to stay in, Round Three, three, Round Four, four and finally in Round Five, they had to answer all five.
