Kirill Gurov
Kirill Gurov (6 March 1918 – 29 September 1994) was a Soviet Russian theoretical physicist working in the field of physical kinetics. Gurov was born in Moscow, Russia, in the family of a military officer. In 1936, he was accepted without examinations to the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics in Moscow State University (MSU) and graduated from MSU in 1941, earning a Diploma with Honour. In 1944, he started to work in MSU as a PhD student, under the supervision of Nikolay Bogolyubov, on problems of kinetic theory of quantum systems. From 1954, and for the rest of his life, Kirill Gurov worked at the A. A. Baikov Institute of Metallurgy and Material ScienceIMMS. Research Kirill Gurov and Nikolay Bogolyubov obtained kinetic equations for quantum systems by developing the method of quantum BBGKY hierarchy. Quantum Physicists
In physics, a quantum (: quanta) is the minimum amount of any physical entity (physical property) involved in an interaction. The fundamental notion that a property can be "quantized" is referred to as "the hypothesis of quantization". This means that the magnitude of the physical property can take on only discrete values consisting of integer multiples of one quantum. For example, a photon is a single quantum of light of a specific frequency (or of any other form of electromagnetic radiation). Similarly, the energy of an electron bound within an atom is quantized and can exist only in certain discrete values. ''Physics-Uspekhi'' is a peer-reviewed scientific journal. It is an English translation of the Russian journal of physics, ''Uspekhi Fizicheskikh Nauk'' (, ''Advances in Physical Sciences'') which was established in 1918. The journal publishes long review papers which are intended to generalize and summarize previously published results, making them easier to use and to understand. The journal covers all topics of modern physics. The English version has existed since 1958, first under the name ''Soviet Physics Uspekhi'' and after 1993 as ''Physics-Uspekhi''. The year 2008 marked the 90th birthday with a jubilee retrospective. The founder of the journal, Eduard Shpolsky, was editor-in-chief from 1918 to his death in 1975. Nauka (publisher)
Nauka () is a Russian publisher of academic books and journals. Established in the USSR in 1923, it was called the USSR Academy of Sciences Publishing House until 1963. Until 1934 the publisher was based in Saint Petersburg, Leningrad, then moved to Moscow. Its logo depicts an open book with Sputnik 1 above it. Nauka was the largest scientific publishing house in the USSR, as well as in the world at one time (in 1982). It was also notable for being the publisher of the USSR Academy of Sciences and its branches. Molecular Diffusion
Molecular diffusion is the motion of atoms, molecules, or other particles of a gas or liquid at temperatures above absolute zero. The rate of this movement is a function of temperature, viscosity of the fluid, size and density (or their product, mass) of the particles. This type of diffusion explains the net flux of molecules from a region of higher concentration to one of lower concentration. Once the concentrations are equal the molecules continue to move, but since there is no concentration gradient the process of molecular diffusion has ceased and is instead governed by the process of self-diffusion, originating from the random motion of the molecules.
