Kirchanschöring () is a municipality in the district of Traunstein in Bavaria, Germany. The community is located in the Rupertiwinkel and it borders on the eastern waterside of the Waginger See, although the town itself is some kilometers away from the lake. Lukas Meindl GmbH & Co.KG, most commonly known as Meindl, is a German footwear manufacturer located in Kirchanschöring, Bavaria, known for its hiking boots for hiking and hillwalking. The company was founded in 1683 by Petrus Meindl. Meindl currently produces the "Desert Fox" combat boots that are issued to soldiers of the British Military (including Royal Marines) in Iraq and Afghanistan, Felix Baumgartner also used Meindl boots in his 2013 jump from space. In 2015, the Meindl Desert Defence was selected to equip French troops for deployment to theaters with a hot climate. It remains the desert combat boots of the French Army as of 2021, complementing the standard Haix Nepal Pro combat boots. Traunstein (district)
Traunstein is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in the southeastern part of Bavaria, Germany. Neighboring districts are (from the north clockwise) Mühldorf, Altötting, the Austrian states Upper Austria and Salzburg, the district Berchtesgadener Land, the Austrian states of Salzburg and Tyrol, and the district Rosenheim. Geography The district is located in the northern foothills of the Alps. The Chiemsee is located in the west of the district. History In 1972 the district was merged with parts of the former district of Laufen, and the previously independent urban district Traunstein. Coat of arms The coat of arms shows a blue panther to the left, the symbol of the Spanheim dynasty of the Counts of Krainburg-Ortenburg, who owned part of the area in medieval times. The Rupertiwinkel is a small historic region on the southeastern border of Bavaria, Germany. Part of the Archbishopric of Salzburg until the early 19th century, it is named after the first Salzburg bishop Saint Rupert (c.660–710), apostle to the Duchy of Bavaria. Geography The area is located in the Alpine Foreland of Upper Bavaria, about north of Salzburg in the German - Austrian border region.
