Kingsley was an unincorporated community in Wasco County, Oregon, United States, named by E.M. Wilson in 1878. Wilson named it for Charles Kingsley Charles Kingsley (12 June 1819 – 23 January 1875) was a broad church priest of the Church of England, a university professor, social reformer, historian, novelist and poet. Wasco County is one of the 36 counties in the U.S. state of Oregon. As of the 2020 census, the population was 25,213. Its county seat is The Dalles. The county is named for a local tribe of Native Americans, the Wasco, a Chinook tribe who live on the south side of the Columbia River. It is near the Washington state line. Charles Kingsley (12 June 1819 – 23 January 1875) was a broad church priest of the Church of England, a university professor, social reformer, historian, novelist and poet. Plot Set initially in Bideford in North Devon during the reign of Elizabeth I, ''Westward Ho!'' follows the adventures of Amyas Leigh, an unruly child who as a young man follows Francis Drake to sea. Amyas loves local beauty Rose Salterne, as does nearly everyone else; much of the novel involves Rose's elopement with a Spanish people, Spaniard. Amyas spends time in the Caribbean coasts of Venezuela seeking gold, and in the process finds his true love, the beautiful Indian maiden Ayacanora. Tygh Valley is a census-designated place (CDP) and unincorporated community in Wasco County, Oregon, United States. The population was 224 at the 2000 census. History Named for the Tygh (Taih, Tyigh) or "Upper Deschutes" Tenino people, Tygh Valley is considered by some to be the beginning of the Barlow Road because many wagon trains crossed the Deschutes River at Sherars Bridge and proceeded west bypassing The Dalles.
