Kindelán
Kindelan is a surname of Irish origin that has been adopted into Spanish. Up to the mid-18th century it was common for Irish citizens to enroll in the Irish Brigades of Spain or France, individuals being known as "wild geese"; this was especially so after the Treaty of Limerick which ended the Williamite War. About 1700 (date uncertain), Michael Kindelan (born 1674 in Ballinakill–died 1720) married Cecelia Lutrell of Luttrellstown near Dublin; their son Vincent was born at Castle Ricard, County Meath in 1710. Vincent (Vicente) became one of these wild geese and fathered both Sebastian and Juan in the 1750s in Spain. He married Maria Francisca O'Regan y MacManus, daughter of Mauricio O'Regan and Rosa MacManus, on 15 Apr 1741 in Fraga. Alfredo Kindelán
Alfredo Kindelán y Duany, 1st Marquess of Kindelán (13 March 1879 – 14 December 1962) was a Spanish general and politician. A close ally of Francisco Franco before and during the Spanish Civil War, their relationship would later become strained as Kindelán emerged as a leading advocate for a swift restoration of the monarchy. He belonged to the Kindelán family, a noted Spanish family of Irish origin. Early career Kindelán was a prominent figure within the Spanish Armed Forces and was founder and head of the Spanish Air Force. A staunch supporter of the monarchy, he took voluntary exile in April 1931 rather than live in a republic. Orestes Kindelán
Orestes Kindelán Olivares (born November 1, 1964) is a Cuban former baseball first baseman and left fielder. He spent most of his career in the Cuban National Series (SNB), playing all 21 seasons with Avispas de Oriente / Avispas de Santiago de Cuba. Nicknamed as "El Tambor Mayor" ("The Drum Major") as well as "El Cañon de Dos Rios", he was regarded as the most prolific home run hitter in the history of post-revolutionary Cuban baseball. Kindelán starred on the ''Aplanadora Santiaguera'' ("Santiago Steamroller") team that won three consecutive SNB titles from 1999 to 2001. José Manuel Kindelán
José Manuel Kindelán Duany (8 October 1887 – 9 November 1919) was a Spanish referee and footballer who played as a defender for Atlético Madrid. Playing career Born in Cádiz, Kindelán moved to Madrid as a child, and eventually, he joined Español de Madrid in 1908, helping the club win its first piece of silverware, the 1908–09 Centro Championship, and then reached the 1909 Copa del Rey final, which they lost 1-3 to Club Ciclista. His great campaign with Español earned him a move to Sociedad Gimnástica in 1909, where he featured alongside the likes of José Carruana and Sócrates Quintana. Mario César Kindelán Mesa (born August 10, 1971), best known as Mario Kindelán, is a Cuban former amateur boxer. He is a two-time Olympic gold medalist, having competed in the lightweight division at the 2000 and 2004 events and defeated world champion boxer Amir Khan to win Olympic gold in 2004. His cousin is baseball player Orestes Kindelán. Success His most successful period came in a winning streak starting with the 1999 Pan American Games title, and covered every major event he entered including the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, three world championships (1999, 2001, 2003), and the 2003 Pan American Games. Jean De Kindelan
Jean de Kindelan (7 December 1759 – 13 November 1822) was a Spanish brigadier general who commanded Joseph Napoleon's Regiment in northern Europe 1809 – 1812 when it formed part of Napoleon's left flank. His known pro-French sympathies led to his not being informed of the plot for the escape of the Spanish troops stranded there after Napoleon replaced the Spanish king Ferdinand VII with his elder brother Joseph Bonaparte. The Flight of the Wild Geese was the departure of an Irish Jacobite army under the command of Patrick Sarsfield from Ireland to France, as agreed in the Treaty of Limerick on 3 October 1691, following the end of the Williamite War in Ireland. More broadly, the term Wild Geese is used in Irish history to refer to Irish soldiers who left to serve in continental European armies in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. An earlier exodus in 1690, during the same war, had formed the French Irish Brigade, who are sometimes misdescribed as Wild Geese. Treaty Of Limerick
The Treaty of Limerick (), signed on 3 October 1691, ended the Williamite War in Ireland, a conflict related to the Nine Years' War (1688–1697). It consisted of two separate agreements, one with military terms of surrender, signed by commanders of a French expeditionary force and Irish Jacobites loyal to the exiled James II. Baron de Ginkell, leader of government forces in Ireland, signed on behalf of William III and his wife Mary II. It allowed Jacobite units to be transported to France, the diaspora known as the Flight of the Wild Geese. The other set out conditions for those who remained, including guarantees of religious freedom for Catholics, and retention of property for those who remained in Ireland. Ballinakill
Ballinakill () is a small village in County Laois, Ireland on the R432 regional road between Abbeyleix, Ballyragget and Castlecomer, County Kilkenny. As of the 2016 census, there were 445 people living in Ballinakill. History In 1606, Sir Thomas Coatch was granted the right to hold a market and fair in the village. The Ballinakill Cattle Fair continued until 1963. In 1611, Ballinakill was acquired by Sir Thomas Ridgeway who invested heavily by building a castle and developing the local area. From 1613 until the Acts of Union, the town was a parliamentary borough, electing two members to the Irish House of Commons. The town was besieged and plundered by Irish rebels, including the Earl of Castlehaven and Lord Mountgarret, during the 1641 Rebellion. Luttrellstown Castle
Luttrellstown Castle is a castellated house located in Clonsilla on the outskirts of Dublin, Ireland dating from the early 15th century (c. 1420). It has been owned variously by the eponymous and notorious Luttrell family, by the bookseller Luke White and his descendants Baron Annaly, by the Guinness family, the Primwest Group, and since 2006, by JP McManus, John Magnier and Aidan Brooks.
