Kim Carnes
Kim Carnes (; born July 20, 1945) is an American singer and songwriter born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Los Angeles. A veteran writer of many of her own hits, as well as those for numerous other artists, she began her career in 1966 as a member of folk group the New Christy Minstrels, before embarking on a solo career as a songwriter and performer in the early 1970s, playing in local clubs. She also worked for several years as a session background singer with the famed Waters Sisters, Maxine Waters Willard and Julia Waters Tillman, who were later featured in the acclaimed 2013 documentary ''20 Feet from Stardom''. In 1971, after she signed her first publishing deal with Jimmy Bowen, Carnes released her debut album ''Rest on Me''. Rest On Me
''Rest on Me'' is the first studio album by Kim Carnes. It was released in 1971 (see 1971 in music) on Amos Records and reissued on A&M Records in the late 1970s. The album (minus the opening song) was also released on CD on many European budget labels in the early 1990s - but with all tracks remixed and, rather curiously, running at a markedly low speed. Most tracks were also lengthened, simply by repeating parts of the tracks. In 2012, the original album was re-mastered and made available, complete and at the correct speed, as an internet download in 2012 and on CD on the Essential Media Group label the following year. Background Carnes began her recording career with The New Christy Minstrels. After meeting producer Jimmy Bowen in 1971, she signed a recording contract with Amos Records. ''Romance Dance'' is the fifth studio album by American singer-songwriter Kim Carnes. It was released on June 2, 1980, by EMI America. It became Carnes' first charting album, peaking at no. 57 on the ''Billboard'' 200. Nine tracks were produced by George Tobin in association with Mike Piccirillo, and one track was produced by Daniel Moore, who worked with Carnes on her previous album, '' St. Vincent's Court''. Smokey Robinson
William "Smokey" Robinson Jr. (born February 19, 1940) is an American R&B and soul singer, songwriter, record producer, and former record executive. He was the founder and frontman of the pioneering Motown vocal group the Miracles, for which he was also chief songwriter and producer. He led the group from its 1955 origins, when they were called The Five Chimes, until 1972, when he retired from the group to focus on his role as Motown Records vice president. Robinson returned to the music industry as a solo artist the following year. He left Motown in 1999. ''Gideon'' is the ninth studio album by American singer Kenny Rogers. It was released by United Artists Records in 1980. The album hit #1 on the Country albums chart and #12 on the main ''Billboard'' album chart. It includes the worldwide hit "Don't Fall in Love with a Dreamer" (a duet with Kim Carnes, who co-wrote the entire album with her husband Dave Ellingson). ''Gideon'' was certified platinum by the RIAA. ''Gideon'' is a concept album about a Texas cowboy, and all the songs stick to this theme. The album is a look back at his life in retrospect. Gerald Wexler (January 10, 1917 – August 15, 2008) was a music journalist turned music producer, and was a major influence on American popular music from the 1950s through the 1980s. ''Sailin is the third studio album by Kim Carnes, released in 1976 (see 1976 in music). The record was recorded, in part, in Muscle Shoals, Alabama with the famed Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section. Although this album hasn't been released on CD, all of the album's songs can be found on the European CD "Kim Carnes - Master Series" released by A&M in 1999. Background ''Sailin was recorded at the Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Sheffield, Alabama, with producers Jerry Wexler and Barry Beckett. Carnes and Ellingson received the Professional Grand Prize at the American Song Festival and Best Composition at the Tokyo Song Festival for "Love Comes from the Most Unexpected Places" in 1976.
