Kilmarnock Athletic Football Club was an association football club from Ayrshire in Scotland. History The club was founded in 1888, under the name Rosebank, sometimes named in the media as Kilmarnock Rosebank. The club played one Scottish Cup tie under that name, losing to Stewarton Cunninghame F.C. in the first round in 1888, the match marking the club's "first bow to a football crowd of any size"; Rosebank was under the disadvantage of having to switch the tie to Stewarton as Holm Quarry had already been booked for a cricket match. The club's protest that the Stewarton ground had a tree and hedge growing on the touch line was literally laughed out of a Scottish Football Association meeting. Name change and Scottish Cup entries The club changed its name in December 1888 to Kilmarnock Athletic, losing 3–2 to its Cup conquerors Stewarton in the first match under the new name. Ayrshire Football League
The Ayrshire Football League is a defunct soccer league in Scotland. Original competition The League was formed in time for the 1891–92 season, by ten clubs which were members of both the Scottish Football Association and the Ayrshire Football Association. The annual fee for playing in the competition was £1, although two clubs would be selected at each season's end to play a friendly match, the crowd proceeds being added to the League's fund. The bottom three in each year had to apply for re-election, and a play-off would decide the title if clubs were level on points at the top of the table; gate money was shared, with visiting clubs guaranteed £2 10s. By 1893 the Ayrshire Football League had increased to 16 clubs. With the players still mostly amateur, the volume of fixtures was proving too much, and 7 clubs left the League to form the Ayrshire Football Combination, one of the sides leaving being the double champion Annbank. Darwen is a market town and civil parish in the Blackburn with Darwen borough in Lancashire, England. The residents of the town are known as "Darreners". Ian Robert Maxwell (born Ján Ludvík Hyman Binyamin Hoch; 10 June 1923 – 5 November 1991) was a Czechoslovakia, Czechoslovak-born British media proprietor, politician and fraudster. After escaping the German occupation of Czechoslovakia, Nazi occupation of his native country, Maxwell joined the Czechoslovak Legion (1939), Czechoslovak Army in exile during World War II and was decorated after active service in the British Army. In subsequent years he worked in publishing, building up Pergamon Press to a major academic publisher. John Brodie (footballer, Died 1901)
John Riley Brodie (born August 14, 1935) is an American former professional American football, football player who was a quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL) for 17 seasons. He had a second career as a Senior PGA Tour professional golfer and was a television broadcaster for both sports. In particular seasons, Brodie led the NFL in passing yardage, passing touchdowns, fewest sacks, and lowest percentage of passes intercepted. He retired as the third most prolific career passer in NFL history. He was the league MVP in and a two-time Pro Bowler.
