History Killowen, a substantial, decorative, highest timber and corrugated iron residence, is believed to have been designed by architects Eaton and Bates, and constructed for Robert Cecil Boland in . Killowen remained in the Boland family for many years, until the mid-1980s. RC Boland, a solicitor who came to Rockhampton in 1894 as a partner in the legal firm Rees R & Sydney Jones, reputedly named the house in honour of Baron Russell of Killowen (1832-1900), Lord Chief Justice of England, whom he admired. History Clancholla is a single storey, timber house constructed by 1922 in Ward Street, The Range, for Stuart MacDonald and family. The Athelstane Range area, overlooking Rockhampton, was much sought after by many of Rockhampton's affluent families as a location in which to construct their prominent residences. Clancholla was owned by descendants of Peter Fitzallan MacDonald (1830-1919). MacDonald arrived in Rockhampton 1858 after being attracted by the Canoona gold rush. Arthur Beckford Polin (23 April 1872 - 21 September 1961) was an Australian architect who practiced in New South Wales and Queensland. Birth and education Polin was born in Newcastle, New South Wales the first son of Elizabeth Rook and Peter Aloysius Polin. He grew up in Coonamble and was educated at Saint Ignatius' College, Riverview, in Sydney. Following school he served his articles with Messrs Tappin and Dennehy, well known ecclesiastical architects. Early life Albert Bates was born on 30 May 1862 in New Zealand, the son of John Edmund and Mary Bates. Rees Rutland Jones (1840–1916) was a solicitor and politician in Queensland, Australia. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early life Rees Rutland Jones was born in 1840 in Sydney, New South Wales, the son of Rees Jones and Ann (née Thompson). He was the nephew of David Jones, the department store merchant.
