Kenan ÅžimÅŸek
Kenan ÅžimÅŸek (born 1968 in Ordu, Turkey) is a former Turkey, Turkish Olympian wrestling, wrestler competing in the 90 kg division of freestyle wrestling, freestyle. He was a member of the club Ankara BüyükÅŸehir Belediyesi SK. Born 1968 in Ordu, northern Turkey, Kenan ÅžimÅŸek began his wrestling career at Samsun in 1984. Achievements He was Olympic silver medalist in Freestyle wrestling in 1992. He placed sixth at the 1990 World Wrestling Championships, 1990 and 1991 World Wrestling Championships. ÅžimÅŸek is the holder of three bronze medals won at the European Wrestling Championships in PoznaÅ„, Poland (1990), Kaposvar, Hungary (1992) and Istanbul, Turkey (1993). Kırkpınar (Turkish language, Turkish for "forty springs") is a Turkey, Turkish oil wrestling (yağlı güreş) tournament where pehlivans (wrestlers) compete for three days. It is held annually, usually in late June, near Edirne, Turkey since 1360. In the finals held on the last day, the first, second and third winners of each category are determined. Oil wrestling (), also called Turkish oil wrestling, is the national sport of Turkey. Oil wrestling includes oil and traditional dress, and its rules are comparable to karakucak. In Assyria, ancient Egypt, and Babylonia, oil wrestling was performed. It spread to Iran and Turkey during the First Achaemenid conquest of Egypt. Oil wrestling was performed by ancient communities 4,500 years ago in Thrace and the Balkans.
