Ken Wlaschin
Kenneth Glen Wlaschin (July 12, 1934November 10, 2009) was an American film programmer, historian of film and music, and author. Biography Wlaschin was born in Bradish, Nebraska and went to high school in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1956 with a Bachelor of Arts in English. He moved to Europe for his English literature Master's degree at University College Dublin and later studied French at the University of Poitiers. In 1958 he joined the US Army in the Counterintelligence Corps based in Poitiers. He moved to Rome and became arts editor and critic for ''Rome Daily American'' and wrote a column for the British newspaper the ''Daily Sketch''. While in Italy he appeared in Spaghetti Western '' The Tramplers'' (1965), one of two films he appeared in. BFI Southbank (from 1951 to 2007, known as the National Film Theatre) is the leading repertory cinema in the United Kingdom, specialising in seasons of classic, independent and non-English language films. Troy Kennedy Martin
Troy Kennedy Martin (15 February 1932 – 15 September 2009) was a Scottish-born film and television screenwriter. He created the long-running BBC TV police series ''Z-Cars'' (1962–1978), and the award-winning 1985 anti-nuclear drama '' Edge of Darkness''. He also wrote the screenplay for the original version of ''The Italian Job'' (1969). His last film was ''Ferrari'' (2023), which was posthumously released. ''The Italian Job'' is a 1969 British comedy Caper story, caper film written by Troy Kennedy Martin, produced by Michael Deeley, directed by Peter Collinson (film director), Peter Collinson, and starring Michael Caine. Gian Carlo Menotti
Gian Carlo Menotti (, ; July 7, 1911 – February 1, 2007) was an Italian-American composer, libretto, librettist, director, and playwright who is primarily known for his output of 25 operas. Although he often referred to himself as an American composer, he kept his Italian citizenship. One of the most frequently performed opera composers of the 20th century, he wrote his most successful works in the 1940s and 1950s. Highly influenced by Giacomo Puccini and Modest Mussorgsky, Menotti further developed the verismo tradition of opera in the post-World War II era. Rejecting atonality and the aesthetic of the Second Viennese School, Menotti's music is characterized by expressive lyricism which carefully sets language to natural rhythms in ways that highlight textual meaning and underscore dramatic intent. Los Angeles International Film Exposition
The Los Angeles International Film Exposition, also called Filmex, was an annual Los Angeles film festival held in the 1970s and early 1980s. It was co-founded by Gary Essert, George Cukor and Philip Chamberlin in 1970. In 1976, Alfred Hitchcock was the first person to receive the Filmex Trustees Award. In 1983, co-founder Essert was forced to resign due to the festival's budget problems and disagreements with the board of trustees over policy. In his place, Suzanne McCormick was named as executive director and Ken Wlaschin as artistic director.
