Kayaş Railway Station
Kayaş railway station is a railway station on the Başkentray commuter rail line in Ankara, Turkey. Located in the Kayaş neighborhood of the Mamak district, it is the eastern terminus of the line. The station closed down in July 2016 and the platforms were demolished, expanded and rebuilt; Kayaş station reopened on 12 April 2018 and serves commuter, regional and intercity trains. As of 2023, it now also serves as a station on the Ankara–Sivas high-speed railway operated by YHT. Turkish Republic Railways
The State Railways of the Republic of Turkey (), abbreviated as TCDD, is a government-owned national railway company responsible for the ownership and maintenance of railways in Turkey, as well as the planning and construction of new lines. Başkentray
Başkentray (), formerly known as the Ankara suburban (), is the name of the long commuter rail line in Ankara, Turkey. It is operated by TCDD Taşımacılık on trackage owned by the Turkish State Railways. History The portion of the rail line from Ankara Station to Sincan was completed in 1892, and a few trains ran daily on it. It was not until TCDD took over the line that a few suburban trains were put into service. Original service was by a steam engine locomotive, pulling up to 3 cars. In 1972, the line was electrified, and the E14000 units were put into service. In 2010, the new E23000 sets replaced the old ones. On 11 July 2016, the line was closed for 18 months for complete rebuilding (stations and rail lines). The First national architecture movement (), also referred to in Turkey as the National architecture Renaissance (), or Turkish Neoclassical architecture (), was a period of Turkish architecture that was most prevalent between 1908 and 1930 but continued until the end of the 1930s. Inspired by Ottomanism, the movement sought to capture classical elements of Ottoman and Anatolian Seljuk architecture and use them in the construction of modern buildings. Despite the style focusing on Ottoman aspects, it was most prevalent during the first decade of the Republic of Turkey. Yüksek Hızlı Tren or YHT () is a high-speed rail service operated by TCDD Transport in Turkey. Branded as "YHT", they are TCDD Transport's flagship passenger train service and the only high-speed rail service in the country. As of 2025, the network spans and serves major cities like Istanbul, Ankara, Eskişehir, İzmit, Konya, and Sivas. Expansion of the system is underway and the network is expected to reach Edirne, Afyonkarahisar, Adana, and İzmir in the 2020s. Ankara–Sivas High-speed Railway
The Ankara–Sivas high-speed railway (), is a long high-speed railway in Turkey and is the second longest high-speed railway in the country after the Ankara–Istanbul high-speed railway. Travel time between Ankara and Sivas was reduced to 2 hours and 50 minutes, from around 9 hours and 30 minutes with conventional trains. The railway will also serve as an extension of the Ankara-Istanbul HSR with a total journey time from Istanbul to Sivas at around 7 hours. The line was opened on April 26, 2023. History and the project In order to reduce travel time between Ankara and Sivas, Turkish State Railways, TCDD undertook a survey for a new high-speed railway line in 2004. Construction began in 2008 with some pauses in 2010 due to changes in the project.
