Kay is an English surname. It derives from the Old Breton and Welsh ''cai'' and the Cornish ''key'' meaning "wharf", or from the Old English ''coeg'' meaning "key". The surname is also a diminutive of MacKay and McKay. In England, the Kay(e)s of Lancashire and Yorkshire are believed to be related to the ancient Kaye family of Woodesham, Yorkshire, and there is also a Kay Family Association. Beatrice Kay
Beatrice Kay (April 21, 1907– November 8, 1986) was an American singer, vaudevillian, music hall performer, and stage and film actress. Background Born in New York City as Hannah Beatrice Kuper, Kay performed as Honey Kuper and Honey Day for part of her career in vaudeville, radio, motion pictures, sound recordings, night clubs, and television. Her career began at the age of six as "Little Lord Fauntleroy" in stock theater in Louisville, Kentucky. She went on to become a headliner at Billy Rose's Diamond Horseshoe Nightclub in New York. She was on ''The Mercury Theatre on the Air'' (directed by Orson Welles), and eventually hosted a radio show, ''The Beatrice Kay Show'', in 1946. Also on radio, she sang regularly on ''Gaslight Gaieties'' and ''Gay Nineties Revue''. Elizabeth Kay
Elizabeth Kay (born 9 July 1949 in London) is an English writer. She is the author of The Divide trilogy, a series of children's fantasy novels, originally published by Chicken House Press, then picked up by Scholastic Books. Biography Before going to art school she attended Nonsuch High School for girls in Cheam. Then went to art school and in her mid-twenties started writing radio plays, which were broadcast on BBC Radio 4. She also wrote stories which were published in newspapers and magazines and broadcast on Capital Radio in London. Kay has an MA in creative writing from Bath Spa University, and has taught both creative writing and art for a number of years. Doug Kay is a retired American football coach who was most recently assistant head coach for the Tampa Bay Storm of the Arena Football League (AFL), which league ceased operations after the 2017 season. He has more than 55 years of football experience, including 12 seasons in the AFL. He was the head coach of the Charlotte Rage, Carolina Cobras and Columbus Destroyers. Dorothy Moss Kay (1886–1964, née Elvery) was an Irish-born South African artist. ''Includes images of many of her works'' Early life, family and education Dorothy Elvery was born in 1886 in Greystones, County Wicklow, Ireland. Her father was William Elvery, whose family owned Elverys Sports store in Dublin. Her sister Beatrice Elvery (1883-1970, also known as Beatrice, Lady Glenavy), was a painter, stained-glass artist and sculptor. Elvery trained at Dublin Metropolitan School of Art in 1900 and at the Royal Hibernian Academy school, but "promoted the notion that she was 'self-taught'". Donald Henry Kay AM (born 25 January 1933) is an Australian classical composer. Kay was born on 25 January 1933 in Smithton, Tasmania. He attained a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of MelbourneAustralian Composer Series, Don Kay "There is an Island", ABC Classics CD 476 5253 reissue 2006 after which he taught music at Colac High School, Victoria, 1957–59. David A. Kay (June 8, 1940 – August 13, 2022) was an American weapons expert, political commentator, and senior fellow at the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies. He was best known for his time as United Nations Chief Weapons Inspector following the first Gulf War and for leading the Iraq Survey Group's search for weapons of mass destruction following the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Upon presentation of the Group's finding that there had been significant errors in pre-war intelligence concerning Iraq's weapons programs, Kay resigned. Alfred Charles Piff (31 August 1930 – 8 January 2025), better known by his stage name Charles Kay, was an English actor. Early life and education Kay was born in Coventry, Warwickshire, the son of Frances (née Petty) and Charles Beckingham Piff. Brian Christopher Kay (born 12 May 1944) is an English radio presenter, conductor and singer. He is well-known as the bass in the King's Singers during the group's formative years from 1968 to 1982, and as such is to be heard on many of their 1970s recordings.
