Katla (volcano)
Katla () is an active subglacial volcano in Farthings of Iceland, southern Iceland. This volcano has been very active historically with at least twenty documented major eruptions since 2920 BC. In its recent history though, Katla has been less active as the last major eruption occurred in 1918. These eruptions have had a Volcanic Explosivity Index (VEI) of between 4 and 5 on a scale of 0 to 8. In comparison, the Eyjafjallajökull 2010 eruption had a VEI of 4. Larger VEI-5 eruptions are comparable to Mount St. Helens 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens, 1980 eruption. These eruptions have produced very large glacial outburst floods. The Katla languages are two to three closely related languages that form a small language family in the Nuba Hills of Sudan. Part of an erstwhile Kordofanian proposal, they are of uncertain position within the hypothetical Niger–Congo family. They do not share the characteristic morphology of Niger–Congo, such as the noun-class system. Katla (also ''Kaalak'' or ''Kwaalak'') is a Katla language, closely related to a neighbouring language called Tima. Katla is generally classified as Kordofanian, which is not a uniform branch, and is native to the Nuba Mountains. While Jalad is seen a dialect there is a clear distinction between the two groups. Katla is a fictional dragon from the Swedish children's book '' The Brothers Lionheart'', written by Astrid Lindgren. The name Katla is an old Norse female name and means either "''the kettle''" or "''the boiler''". It is also the name of a volcano in Iceland and a Heavy Metal band from Denmark. Katla is a huge ancient monster in the land of Nangijala, with the ability to spray flames from her mouth, just like its namesake volcano in Iceland. If a victim of the flames survives, the victim is paralyzed. Katla is controlled and will obey only a lur, which is owned by the evil warlord Tengil, who uses Katla to terrorize Nangijala. The scale of Katla is so strong that no weapon can injure her or even leave a scratch. When the citizens of Cherry Valley rise up against Tengil, he uses Katla to stop them, but loses the lur to Jonathan Lionheart, one of the protagonists. ''Katla'' is the second album by Norwegian singer-songwriter Ida Maria. It was released in Norway in September 2010 and internationally in June 2011. Album information The album was recorded in Santa Monica, Los Angeles, sometime during the Summer of 2010, while the Eyjafjallajökull volcano erupted, which led Ida Maria to title it Katla. The original edition of the album featured, on its cover, a photo of the volcano taken in 1918. Produced by Butch Walker (Avril Lavigne, P!NK), it was considered by Maria as a good opportunity to experiment. The two advance tracks before the international release were "Bad Karma" and "Cherry Red". In Norway, the first single was "Quite Nice People", which was promoted by a video directed by Stone Elvestad. ''Katla'' (stylized as ''KATLA'') is an Icelandic mystery-drama television series created by Baltasar Kormákur and Sigurjón Kjartansson. The show premiered on 17 June 2021 on Netflix. Synopsis A year after an eruption of the Katla volcano began, only a few people remain in the nearby town of VÃk, persisting despite choking ash. An ash-caked woman who apparently disappeared twenty years earlier appears in the village, looking as she did back then. More ash-caked people who died in the past arrive in VÃk, creating a paradox for those who knew them and reviving legends of "changelings".
