Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń
Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń (Bulgarian: Екатерина Попова) (born 30 April 1948 in Sofia) is a Polish pianist of Bulgarian descent. She studied at the Poznań Music Academy, then graduated with honours from the State High School of Music (Academy of Music) in Gdańsk, in Professor Zbigniew Sliwinski's class, in 1973. She completed her postgraduate studies in the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna, in Professor Alexander Jenner's class. She was a prizewinner of the Polish Competitions: 4th Polish Festival of Young Musicians, 2nd Polish Competition of Piano Music; obtained an honorable mention at the IX International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 1975, and entered the semifinals of the Piano Competition in Terni, Italy, 1975, and of the ARD Piano Competition in Munich in 1978. XVIII International Chopin Piano Competition
The XVIII International Chopin Piano Competition () was held from 2 to 23 October 2021 in Warsaw. Originally scheduled for 2020, the quinquennial competition was twice postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 87 pianists from 18 countries took part in the main stage of the competition, which was divided into three stages with 87, 45 and 23 participants each, and a final with twelve pianists. The first prize was awarded to Bruce Liu of Canada. Background The competition was originally scheduled to take place from 2 to 23 October 2020, with the preliminary round to be held from 17 to 28 April. In May 2020, the competition was postponed to the same dates in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
