Kashtan-class Salvage Vessel
The Project 141, (NATO reporting name Kashtan class) is a class of salvage vessel/submersible support built at Rostock's Neptun Werft in East Germany for the Soviet Navy. In total, eight ships of this type were commissioned from 1988 to 1990. The ships became part of the Russian Navy after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The stern has a crane capable of lifting 100 tons with which a (DSRV) can be launched and recovered. Operations In June 2014 it was reported that ''SS-750'' had participated in sea trials in the Baltic Sea of a Bester-1 submersible. On 6 September 2022 Russia's Ministry of Defence informed that ''SS-750'' had participated in sea trials in the Baltic Sea of two new, improved Kilo-class submarines and on 6 October there was again news of ''SS-750'' having participated in sea trials in the Baltic Sea, this time with a single submarine. Strait Of Baltiysk
The Strait of Baltiysk (, , ) is a strait enabling passage from the Baltic Sea into the brackish Vistula Lagoon, located in Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia. The constructed strait separates the Vistula Spit from the peninsula (called Pillau Peninsula in Russia: Пиллауский полуостров, after the ) which was part of the Vistula Spit in the 15th century and now is part of Sambian Peninsula. Shipping The strait is the shipping connection from the high sea to the important Russian ports of Baltiysk and Kaliningrad in the northeastern lagoon, as well as to the Polish ports of Elbląg, Braniewo, Tolkmicko, Frombork, Sztutowo, Krynica Morska, and Nowa Pasłęka in the southeastern lagoon. ... 2022 Nord Stream Pipeline Sabotage
On 26 September 2022, a series of underwater explosions and consequent gas leaks occurred on 3 of 4 Nord Stream pipes, rendering them inoperable. The Nord Stream 1 (NS1) and Nord Stream 2 (NS2) are natural gas pipelines. They are two of 23 gas pipelines between Europe and Russia. The leaks were located in international waters, but within the economic zones of Denmark and Sweden. Both pipelines were built to transport natural gas from Russia to Germany through the Baltic Sea, and are majority owned by the Russian majority state-owned gas company, Gazprom. Prior to the leaks, the pipelines were filled with natural gas but were not transporting it as a consequence of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The leaks occurred one day before Poland and Norway opened the Baltic Pipe running through Denmark, bringing in gas from the North Sea, rather than from Russia as the Nord Stream pipelines do.
