Karolína Peake
Karolína Peake (born 10 October 1975), née Kvačková, is a Czech politician and lawyer who served as the Deputy Prime Minister of the Czech Republic from 2011 to 2013. Career She was a member of the Civic Democratic Party between 1997 and 1998, during her studies at university. In 1999 she graduated from the Faculty of Law at Charles University and married Charles Peake, an Australian manager of Czech-Chinese origin. After this, she worked as a trainee lawyer in the Czech branch of Baker & McKenzie. She gave birth to her sons Sebastian, and Theodor, with whom she took five years parental leave. Thereafter, she began to be involved in local politics, including campaigns to save a local park and to extend local children's playgrounds. In 2006, she was elected to the town council of Prague 1 for Public Affairs. Václav Havel
Václav Havel (; 5 October 193618 December 2011) was a Czech statesman, author, poet, playwright, and dissident. Havel served as the last List of presidents of Czechoslovakia, president of Czechoslovakia from 1989 until 1992, prior to the dissolution of Czechoslovakia on 31 December, before he became the first president of the Czech Republic from 1993 to 2003. From the Communist coup d'état in February 1948 to the Velvet Revolution in 1989, Czechoslovakia was ruled by the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (, ''KSČ''). Prague Society For International Cooperation
The Prague Society for International Cooperation is a Prague-based non-governmental organization that originated in Communist Central Europe, when political dissidents joined forces to oppose their respective regimes. Several of its members were imprisoned during the communist era and the Prague Society officially became a registered NGO in 1997 under President Václav Havel. A principal aim of the Society is to fight against corruption and abuse within Central and Eastern Europe. LIDEM
Conservative Right Party – Order of the Nation (, SKP - ŘN), previously known as LIDEM – Liberal Democrats, is a political party in the Czech Republic, formed in 2012 as a breakaway party from Public Affairs (VV). The party supported greater individual freedom in economic and social spheres. History On 22 April 2012, the governing coalition of the Civic Democratic Party (ODS) and TOP 09 dissolved their coalition with VV due to corruption accusations against the party leadership (especially Vít Bárta), raising the possibility that early elections would be held in June 2012. 2010 Czech Legislative Election
Parliamentary elections were held in the Czech Republic on 28–29 May 2010 to elect the 200 members of the Chamber of Deputies. The elections had been expected to take place sometime before the end of 2009, but was postponed due to legal challenges. Before the election, the country had been governed by a caretaker administration headed by Jan Fischer. The Czech Social Democratic Party (ČSSD) was the front-runner of the election and its leader Jiří Paroubek was the favourite to become the new prime minister. ČSSD came first in the election, although they suffered significant losses in seats and the popular vote. Prague 1, formally the Prague 1 Municipal District (), is a Prague city districts, second-tier municipality in Prague. It is co-extensive with the national administrative district (''správní obvod'') of the same name. Prague 1 includes most of the medieval heart of the city. All of Staré Město (Prague), Staré Město (the Old Town) and Josefov (Prague), Josefov (the Jewish Quarter) are in the district, as are most of Malá Strana (the Little Quarter), Hradčany and Nové Město (Prague), Nové Město (the New Town). A town council, city council or municipal council is a form of local government for small municipalities. Usage of the term varies under different jurisdictions. Republic of Ireland In 2002, 49 urban district councils and 26 town commissioners were redesignated as 75 town councils as a tier of local government below the county council.
