Karlova Studánka
Karlova Studánka () is a spa municipality and village in Bruntál District in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 200 inhabitants. The village is well preserved and protected as a Cultural monument (Czech Republic)#Monument zones, village monument zone. Geography Karlova Studánka is located about northwest of Bruntál. It lies in the Hrubý Jeseník mountain range. The highest point is the rock Rolandův kámen at above sea level. The village is situated in a valley of the Bílá Opava River, a tributary of the Opava (river), Opava. History The first written mention of Karlova Studánka is from 1554, under its original name Hinnewieder. The first spa buildings were built in 1782. The village was renamed Karlsbrunn/Karlova Studánka (i.e. "Charles' Spring") in 1803 in honour of Archduke Charles, Duke of Teschen, Archduke Charles, who defeated Napoleon in the Battle of Aspern-Essling. Hrubý Jeseník (sometimes called High Ash Mountains in English; or ''Hohes Gesenke'', ) is a mountain range and geomorphological mesoregion of the Czech Republic. Battle Of Aspern-Essling
In the Battle of Aspern-Essling (21–22 May 1809), Napoleon crossed the Danube near Vienna, but the French and their allies were attacked and forced back across the river by the Austrians under Archduke Charles. It was the first time Napoleon had been personally defeated in a major battle, as well as his first battle defeat in 10 years since the Siege of Acre, and his first battle defeat as head of state, although he did suffer a tactical defeat in the Battle of Caldiero (1796). The Opava (, ) is a river in the Czech Republic, a left tributary of the Oder River. It partly forms the Czech-Polish state border.
