Petras Karla (9 April 1937 – 14 October 1969) was a Lithuanian rower who specialized in the eight event. Karla, Greece
Karla () is a former municipality in Magnesia, Thessaly, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Rigas Feraios, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 223.591 km2. The population of the municipal unit is 3,766 (2021). It is an agricultural area producing cereals, cotton and vegetables (28 kilometres away from Volos). The capital of the municipality was Stefanovikeio. The municipality was named after Lake Karla although in the antiquity was known as ''Voivis''. This shows that it was dedicated to the sun and the goddess of light Phoebe who was Leto's mother. Leto was the mother of Apollo who also had the name Phoebus which means the sun. In the Middle Ages the name changed to Karla after the Lake Karla. Karla, Kose Parish
Karla is a village in Kose Parish, Harju County in northern Estonia. First written record of the village is from 1241 in Danish landmeasuring book ( Liber Census Daniae). Before the Great Northern War (1700–1721) there were 3 villages in the current territory: Kirimäe (13 farms), Söönurme (3 farms) and Karla (17 farms). After the plague (1711) and robbers - there were only 6 families left. In 1805, there was a Kose-Uuemõisa rebellion from the village farmers against landlords. One of the rebel leaders was from Karla village. In 1944, during the bombardment of Tallinn, one Russian bomber crashed between Vetka and Matsuhansu farm. In 1949, by the order from the Soviet state, new kolkhoz was initiated in the village. After the re-independence of Republic of Estonia, in 1991, there was a local community movement to restore village history and traditions. Lake Karla () is a lake that sits at above sea level making it the only one in the plain of Thessaly. The lake is located at the northern end of the Magnesia regional unit in the Pineios basin, adjacent to Pelion and the Maurovouni mountains. On the eastern part of the lake lies the town of Kanalia. Name Its first name was Boibeis (, modern transliteration Voivis) and was taken from the nearby ancient city of Boibe which today is located at Kanalia. It was discovered in 1993 by David C. Jewitt and Jane X. Luu at the Mauna Kea Observatory, Hawaii. Following its discovery it was nicknamed "Karla" after a character by John le Carré by its discoverers and was hailed as that of a new planet. Michael E.
