Karel Bláha (singer)
Karel Bláha (20 September 1947 – 2 May 2025) was a Czech operetta and musical singer and actor. His vocal field was a lyric tenor. Early life and career After graduating from the Ostrava and Prague conservatories, despite the ban on active artistic activity of conservatory students, Bláha performed as a singer with the Zdeněk Barták Orchestra during his studies. He began his professional career after winning a singing talent competition in 1967 with a short engagement at the Rokoko Theatre. For the next three decades, Bláha worked as a leading soloist of the Karlín Musical Theatre. Eurydice (Aucoin)
''Eurydice'' is an opera composed by Matthew Aucoin with a libretto by Sarah Ruhl based on her 2003 play of the same name, a retelling of the legend of Orpheus and Eurydice. It had its premiere at the Los Angeles Opera on February 1, 2020, with Aucoin conducting. It had its Metropolitan Opera premiere on November 23, 2021. Composition history The work was co-commissioned and co-produced by the Metropolitan Opera, and was mostly written while Aucoin was serving as the Los Angeles Opera's artist in residence. Bratislavská Lýra
Bratislavská lýra was a Czechoslovak festival of popular songs that took place every year from 1966 until 1990 and was held in Bratislava. It was renewed in 1997 but cancelled again in 1998. The festival involved national and international contests and concerts by international musicians. History The idea for the festival arose between 1964 and 1965 by composers Ján Siváček and Pavol Zelenay, who went on to organize it. Gustav Brom
Gustav Brom (22 May 1921 – 25 September 1995) was a Slovaks, Slovak-Czechs, Czech big band leader, arranger, clarinetist and composer. He achieved fame in Europe and abroad from the 1940s right through to his death in 1995. He worked prolifically and was noted for remaining true to the jazz big band idiom, beginning with Dixieland and swing and later, with contributions from his musicians, moving into the West Coast jazz sound. Biography Born Gustav Frkal on 22 May 1921 in Veľké Leváre, his and the band's first professional engagement was in June 1940 in the Radhošť Hotel in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm. Milivoj Uzelac
Milivoj Uzelac (1897–1977) was a painter influential in the Zagreb modern art scene of the 1920s and 30s. During the Zagreb Spring Salon of the 1920s, he participated with Vilko Gecan, Marijan Trepše and Vladimir Varlaj as the Group of Four. Uzelac spent much of his professional life in France, and is best known for his portraits and interior scenes with bohemian characters. Karel Vlach (8 October 1911, in Prague – 26 February 1986, in Prague) was a Czech dance orchestra conductor and arranger. He founded his first orchestra in 1938.
