Nagykanizsa
Nagykanizsa (; , or just ''Kaniža/Kanjiža''; ; ; ; ), known colloquially as Kanizsa, is a medium-sized city in Zala County in southwestern Hungary. It is a city with county rights. It lies not far from Lake Balaton at the meeting point of five routes. For centuries the town has been a connecting link. Goods from Slavonia were transported to Graz via Nagykanizsa, and the town played an important role in the trade from the Adriatic Sea to the Alpine region, Vienna, and Budapest. History The city's oldest Roman-era ruins were excavated in the 1960s. During the Middle Ages, Nagykanizsa became one of the most important strongholds of the Hungarian Kingdom. The Kanije Eyalet () was an administrative territorial entity of the Ottoman Empire formed in 1600 and existing until the 1699 Treaty of Karlowitz. Captaincy Of Kanizsa
The Captaincies of the Kingdom of Hungary () were administrative divisions, military districts in the 16th and 17th centuries. The Ottoman Empire meant a constant threat to the kingdom, therefore the Habsburg Hungarian kings needed to establish a well-working military administration. The captaincy (''főkapitányság'') was administered by the Royal Captain-general of the Captaincy. In 1542, the Hungarian kingdom, primarily for military and administrative purposes, was divided into two captaincies, Captaincy of Cisdanubia (mostly Upper Hungary) and Captaincy of Transdanubia (the remaining territories). Domașnea () is a commune in Caraș-Severin County, western Romania with a population of 1,053 people as of 2021. It is composed of two villages, Cănicea (''Szörénykanizsa'') and Domașnea. Gaetano Kanizsa
Gaetano Kanizsa (; 18 August 1913 – 13 March 1993) was an Italian psychologist and artist of Jewish and Slovenian descent who last served as a founder of the Institute of Psychology of Trieste. Biography Gaetano Kanizsa was born on 18 August 1913 in Trieste, Austria-Hungary to a Jew father from Nagybecskerek and a Slovene mother from Bovec. His surname is analogous to the Hungarian town Kanizsa (now Nagykanizsa). He attended the classic lyceum and got the laurea (post-secondary academic degree) at the University of Padova in 1938, writing a thesis on eidetic memory. In 1947 he became a teaching assistant at the University of Florence. In 1953 he returned to Trieste with the role of full professor at the University of Trieste, chair he held for 30 years. Tivadar Kanizsa (4 April 1933 – 4 November 1975) was a Hungarian water polo player who competed in the 1956 Summer Olympics, in the 1960 Summer Olympics, and in the 1964 Summer Olympics. He was born in Debrecen and died in Jásztelek. Kanizsa was part of the Hungarian team which won the gold medal in the 1956 tournament. He played two matches. Four years later he was a member of the Hungarian team which won the bronze medal in the 1960 Olympic tournament. He played six matches and scored six goals.
