Kampung Siam, Penang
Kampong Siam is an ethnic Malaysian Siamese, Siamese enclave within the Central George Town, Penang, downtown core of George Town, Penang, George Town in the States and federal territories of Malaysia, Malaysian state of Penang. Located within the city centre, the neighbourhood is situated near the corner between Burmah Road, George Town, Burmah Road and Burmah Lane, immediately adjacent to Wat Chaiyamangkalaram. The neighbourhood is still inhabited by ethnic Siamese, who had moved into the area as early as the 19th century. However, the enclave has also, in recent years, been under threat from rapid urbanisation and redevelopment. Burmah Road, George Town
Burmah Road is a major thoroughfare in the city of George Town within the Malaysian state of Penang. The long road is a major artery leading out of the city centre towards the suburb of Tanjong Tokong. Burmah Road is one of the few places worldwide that was named after the nation state of Burma (now Myanmar). As its name implies, the road was once home to a significant Burmese community. In addition, ethnic Eurasians and Thais still live at or around the vicinity of the road within Pulau Tikus, contributing to the street's multicultural character. Ayer Rajah is a residential neighbourhood within the downtown core of George Town in the Malaysian state of Penang. This leafy, affluent neighbourhood, situated adjacent to the Penang Botanic Gardens, mostly consists of landed properties such as bungalows and semi-detached houses, surrounded by tree-lined avenues. Etymology Ayer Rajah was named after Ayer Rajah Bay, the northern bay of George Town which forms the city's northern shoreline and includes the present-day Gurney Drive. Kampong Serani
Kampong Serani is a residential neighbourhood within the downtown core of George Town in the Malaysian state of Penang. Located within the city centre, it is bounded by College Avenue to the west and Leandro's Lane to the east. The neighbourhood was formerly inhabited by ethnic Eurasians, who had moved into the area as early as the 19th century. However, most of the original Eurasian residents had since relocated to other areas in the city, following the redevelopment of Kampong Serani into a modern neighbourhood in the late 1990s. Despite the urbanisation, the neighbourhood still retains some of its Eurasian characteristics and is home to the Penang Eurasian Association. Wat Buppharam (; ), also known as the Buppharam Buddhist Temple, is a Theravada Buddhist temple within George Town in the Malaysian state of Penang. Situated at Jalan Perak, the temple is the home to a renowned statue of Buddha, the "Lifting Buddha". Wat Chayamangkalaram
Wat Chayamangkalaram (; ), also known as the Chayamangkalaram Buddhist Temple, is a Theravada Buddhist temple within George Town in the Malaysian state of Penang. The Rattanakosin Kingdom, also known as the Kingdom of Siam after 1855, refers to the Siamese kingdom between 1782 and 1932. Pulau Tikus is a neighbourhood within the downtown core of George Town in the Malaysian state of Penang. Named after a rock just off the coast of Penang Island, this upper class neighbourhood is home to Eurasian, Thai and Burmese communities.
