Kamień (album)
''Kamień'' is a studio album by Polish singer Kayah, released in 1995 by Zic Zac and BMG Poland. It was a critical and commercial success and spawned one of Kayah's biggest hits, "Fleciki". Background Although ''Kamień'' was Kayah's second studio album, the singer considers it her 'proper' debut album, excluding the 1988 self-titled LP from her official discography. Kayah wrote and co-produced all material on ''Kamień'' which musically is a blend of pop, soul and jazz. The album was supported by four singles: "Jak liść" and "Nawet deszcz" in 1995, followed by "Fleciki" and "Santana" in 1996. ''Kamień'' was an unexpected commercial success, earning gold certification in Poland. It was also well received by music critics and earned a nomination to the Fryderyk award as the Pop Album of the Year. Katarzyna Magdalena Rooijens (née Szczot; born 5 November 1967 in Warsaw), professionally known as Kayah, is a Polish people, Polish singer-songwriter performing a variety of music genres, including Pop music, pop, soul music, soul, jazz, world music, world and dance music, dance. The Polish Society of the Phonographic Industry (; ZPAV) is the trade organization that represents the interests of the music industry in Poland, and the Polish chapter of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI). Albums charts Current History In the 1970s and the 1980s, Polish music monthly ''Non Stop'' published a year-end list of the best selling albums in Poland. In the mid-1990s, two monthly sales lists were launched and published in music magazines. The first one was a top 50 compiled by ZPAV, based on shipment, not sales, which continues to be published to date. The other was a top 100 called Gorąca Setka (English: Hot 100), printed monthly in ''Gazeta Muzyczna''. The Fryderyk is the annual award in Polish music. Its name refers to the original Polish spelling variant of Polish composer Frédéric Chopin's first name. Its status in the Polish public can be compared to the US Grammy and British BRIT Award. Officially created in 1994 and presented for the first time in 1995, the award was initially conferred by the Polish Society of the Phonographic Industry (''Związek Producentów Audio-Video'', ZPAV). Since 1999, nominees and winners have been selected by a body called Phonographic Academy (''Akademia Fonograficzna'') which by now consists of nearly 1000 artists, journalists and music industry professionals.
