Kalkhoff
Kalkhoff is a German bicycle manufacturer based in Cloppenburg; it was founded in 1919 by Heinrich Kalkhoff (* 30. November 1903; † 25. September 1972) as a family business. Founded as a first small workshop in Kalkhoff's parents' house, the company grew steadily. By 1939, more than 700,000 frames for bicycles were produced. The war forced the company to convert to the production of military equipment. After the end of the second World War, Kalkhoff initially manufactured everyday goods such as trailers and boilers. Only in 1950 did bicycle production resume, with the production of bicycles for leisure and everyday use. During the 1950s' bicycle boom, Kalkhoff expanded to 1200 employees and daily production reached 5000 frames. In 1968, Heinrich Kalkhoff left the company and turned management over to his sons Karl, Heinz and Berthold Kalkhoff. Focus & Kalkhoff Holding GmbH (formerly ''Derby Cycle GmbH'') based in Cloppenburg, Germany, is one of the three largest manufacturers of bicycles in Europe. During the 2010/11 fiscal year Derby employed 756 people. Derby Cycle has a 14% market share in Germany. Formerly the ''Derby Cycle AG'' is listed in the Prime Standard of the regulated market of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. Till July 2022 the holding had the name ''Derby Cycle Holding GmbH''. Today the holding is owned by Pon Holdings. History Derby Cycle Corporation has roots in Luxembourg-based Derby International Corp. SA, a company that had purchased Raleigh Bicycle Company in April 1987. Cloppenburg
Cloppenburg (; ; ) is a town in Lower Saxony, in north-western Germany, capital of Cloppenburg District and part of Oldenburg Münsterland. It lies 38 km south-south-west of Oldenburg in the Weser-Ems region between Bremen and the Dutch border. Cloppenburg is not far from the A1, the major motorway connecting the Ruhr area to Bremen and Hamburg. Another major road is the federal highway B213 being the shortest link from the Netherlands to the A1 and thus to Bremen and Hamburg.
