Kaare Strøm (athlete)
Kaare Strøm (18 April 1915 – 29 June 1982) was a Norwegian long jumper and triple jumper. His personal best triple jump was 15.49 metres, achieved in August 1939 at Bislett stadion. With this he was a European record holder for a period, beating the old mark by Vilho Tuulos by one centimetre. Strøm also had a 15.82 metres jump in September 1939 in Gothenburg, albeit with an illegal wind assistance of about 8 m/s. For comparison, 15.49 metres is better than the gold medal-winning results at the 1934, 1938, 1946 and 1950 European Athletics Championships, and also better than the winning result at the 1948 Summer Olympics. His result was a Norwegian record until Odd Bergh jumped 15.63 metres in 1962. Strøm won silver medals at the Norwegian championships in 1935 and 1936, both times behind Eugen Haugland, and became Norwegian champion in 1938 and 1939. Eugen Haugland (12 July 1912 – 21 October 1990) was a Norwegian triple jumper. He represented Haugesund IL. He was a brother of Jens Edv. Haugland, father of Terje Haugland and grandfather of Hanne Haugland. At the 1936 Summer Olympics he finished fourteenth in the triple jump final with a jump of 14.56 metres. Aust-Agder (, ) was a county (''fylke'') in Norway from 1 January 1919 to 31 December 2019, after it was merged with Vest-Agder to form Agder county. In 2002, there were 102,945 inhabitants, which was 2.2% of Norway's population. Its area was . The county's administrative center was the town of Arendal. Nils Uhlin Hansen
Nils Uhlin Hansen (6 May 1919 – 11 January 1945) was a Norwegian long jumper and resistance member during World War II. He had a successful athletics career before the war; setting a Nordic long jump record which was not surpassed for 20 years (14 years after his death). He was killed less than four months before the end of the war, as he was surprised by Wehrmacht forces following a sabotage mission. Pre-war life He was born in Trondheim, the son of Haakon Hansen and Swedish citizen Agnes Collin. Representing sports club SK Freidig, he had a successful career in the long jump; only nineteen years old he won the Norwegian championships. Jumping 7.39 metres, he was 25 centimetres ahead of runner-up Kaare Strøm. In 1939, Hansen won a silver medal behind Kaare Strøm. On 11 September 1939, Hansen established a new Norwegian record. IK Grane
Idrettsklubben Grane is a Norwegian multi-sports club from Arendal. It has sections for association football, team handball, athletics and orienteering. The club was founded on 10 February 1902 and named after Grani of Norse mythology. The men's football team was a contender on national level before the Second World War, playing a number of seasons in the League of Norway. In the 1947–48 League of Norway, which was the last edition of the competition before the advent of the Main League, Grane failed to qualify for the Main League. Grane spent most of the 1950s in the Landsdelsserien, until its discontinuation in 1962, when Grane once again failed to qualify for the new Second Division.
