KXPR
KXPR (88.9 FM) is a non-commercial, listener-supported public radio station in Sacramento, California, airing a classical music format. Along with sister station KXJZ 90.9 FM, they are known as Capital Public Radio or "CapRadio." Both stations are owned by California State University, Sacramento (Sacramento State), and share studios along Folsom Boulevard on campus. KXPR is a Class B station. It has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 50,000 watts, the maximum for most stations in the Sacramento area. The transmitter is on Eagles Nest Road at Florin Road in Rancho Cordova. It is owned by Sacramento State University and has studios on the campus at 7055 Folsom Boulevard. KXJZ's sister station is classical music- formatted KXPR 88.9 FM. The two stations are known as CapRadio (formerly Capital Public Radio). KXJZ has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 50,000 watts, the maximum for most stations in California. Capital Public Radio
CapRadio (Capital Public Radio) is the public radio service of California State University, Sacramento. It consists of two full-power stations and five repeaters, all members of National Public Radio. It is the NPR member for Sacramento and much of the surrounding area, including Stockton and Modesto. The group is headquartered on Folsom Boulevard on the Sacramento State campus. CapRadio also operates North State Public Radio serving the northern Sacramento Valley, and KHSU serving the North Coast, under operating agreements. Stations KXJZ (90.9 FM) in Sacramento airs news and talk programming from NPR, as well as jazz and blues programming on weekends. Effective Radiated Power
Effective radiated power (ERP), synonymous with equivalent radiated power, is an IEEE standardized definition of directional radio frequency (RF) power, such as that emitted by a radio transmitter. It is the total power in watts that would have to be radiated by a half-wave dipole antenna to give the same radiation intensity (signal strength or power flux density in watts per square meter) as the actual source antenna at a distant receiver located in the direction of the antenna's strongest beam (main lobe). Rancho Cordova
Rancho Cordova is a city in Sacramento County, California, United States. Incorporated in 2003, it is part of the Sacramento Metropolitan Area. The population was 79,332 at the 2020 census. In 2010 and 2019, Rancho Cordova received the All-America City Award. History Originally called Mayhew's Crossing and Hangtown Crossing (c. 1855) during the Gold Rush era, the area was renamed Mayhew Station and Mills Station (c. 1900), respectively. HD Radio
HD Radio (HDR) is a trademark for in-band on-channel (IBOC) digital radio broadcast technology. HD radio generally simulcast, simulcasts an existing analog radio station in digital format with less noise and with additional text information. HD Radio is used primarily by FM broadcasting, FM radio stations in the United States, U.S. Virgin Islands, Canada, Mexico and the Philippines, with a few implementations outside North America.
