KBLX-FM (102.9 MHz) is a commercial radio station licensed to Berkeley, California, and serving the San Francisco Bay Area. It is owned by Salt Lake Citybased Bonneville International. The radio studios and offices are along Junipero Serra Boulevard in Daly City. The transmitter is atop the San Bruno Mountains. Until its sale in April 2012, KBLX was owned for more than 30 years by the now-defunct, black-owned Inner City Broadcasting Corporation, and used the slogan "The Quiet Storm." WPAT (930 AM) is a radio station licensed to Paterson, New Jersey, with a brokered programming format. It is owned by Multicultural Broadcasting with studios in Manhattan's Financial District. WPAT is powered at 5,000 watts, using a directional antenna to protect other stations on 930 AM from interference. The station's four 380 foot towers are on Broad Street in Clifton, New Jersey, near the Garden State Parkway. History Beautiful music WPAT signed on the air on May 3, 1941. It originally was a daytimer broadcasting at 1,000 watts, required to go off the air at night. Its studios were at 7 Ellison Street in Paterson. Aquatic Park (Berkeley)
Aquatic Park is a public park in Berkeley, California, United States, located just east of the Eastshore Freeway (Interstate 80) between Ashby and University Avenues. The Works Progress Administration created the park in the 1930s simultaneously with the nearby Berkeley Yacht Harbor. Its centerpiece is an artificial mile-long lagoon that was cut off from San Francisco Bay by the creation of a causeway for the Eastshore Highway, during the construction of the approaches to the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge, also in the 1930s. The lagoon still communicates with the Bay through culverts under the freeway (one in line with Ashby Avenue, the other in line with Grayson Street). Chapel of the Chimes was founded as California Electric Crematory in 1909 as a crematory and columbarium at 4499 Piedmont Avenue, at the entrance of Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland, California. The present building dates largely from a 1928 redevelopment based on the designs of the architect Julia Morgan. The Spanish Gothic architecture features Moorish motifs and the interior is a maze of small rooms featuring ornate stonework, statues, gardens, fountains, and mosaics. History The chapel originates with a crematory built in 1909 by the California Crematorium Association on the site of a trolley car station; the old structure still has train schedules on the wall. The Claremont Resort & Club is a historic American hotel that is situated at the foot of Claremont Canyon in the Berkeley Hills. Located in the Claremont district, near the intersection of Claremont Avenue and Ashby Avenue, the site straddles the city limits of Berkeley and Oakland.
