KNVB Beker
The KNVB Beker (; ), branded as the TOTO KNVB Beker for sponsorship reasons, is a competition in the Netherlands organised by the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) since 1898. It was based on the format of the English FA Cup. Outside the Netherlands, it is often referred to as the Dutch Cup. The tournament consists of all teams from the top four tiers of Dutch league football (Eredivisie, Eerste Divisie, Tweede Divisie and Derde Divisie), as well as the 24 semi-finalists (or replacements) of the six KNVB District Cups. The finals of the tournament traditionally takes place in De Kuip, and has been held there every season since the 1989 final. The winners of the cup compete against the winners of the Eredivisie for the Johan Cruyff Shield, (equivalent to a super cup) which acts as the curtain raiser for the following season. KNVB Women's Cup
The KNVB Women's Cup () is the cup competition for women's football in the Netherlands. The competition was established in 1980, along with the KNVB Amateur Cup. It is organized by the Royal Dutch Football Association (K''oninklijke Nederlandse Voetbalbond'' or KNVB). It is currently called the Toto KNVB Beker due to an advertising agreement. With the formation of the Eredivisie in the 2007, the first round of the cup was a group stage for clubs in the lower leagues, the Hoofdklasse and the Eerste Klasse. Eredivisie clubs joined the competition in the second round. The amateur Topklasse joined the competition in the 2015–16 competition. The Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation (''RSSSF'') is an international organisation dedicated to collecting statistics about association football. The foundation aims to build an exhaustive archive of football-related information from around the world. Gatorade is an American brand of sports-themed beverage and food products, built around its signature line of sports drinks. Amstel Brewery
Amstel Brewery ( ) is a Dutch brewery founded in 1870 on the Mauritskade in Amsterdam. It was taken over by Heineken International in 1968, and the brewing plant closed down in 1982, with production moving to the main Heineken plant at Zoeterwoude. Overtime (sports)
Overtime (OT) or extra time (ET) is an additional period of play to bring a game to a decision and avoid declaring the match a tie or draw where the scores are the same. In some sports, this extra period is played only if the game is required to have a clear winner, as in single-elimination tournaments where only one team or players can advance to the next round or win the tournament and replays are not allowed. The rules of overtime or extra time vary between sports and even different competitions. Some may employ " sudden death", where the first player or team who scores immediately wins the game. In others, play continues until a specified time has elapsed, and only then is the winner declared. Jan Hisgen
Jan Hisgen was a Dutch footballer who played as a forward for RAP at the turn of the century. He played a crucial role in helping the club win the first KNVB Cup in 1899 and the first-ever international club trophy in European football in 1900, the Coupe Van der Straeten Ponthoz, scoring the winner in both finals. Club career Little is known about his life; Hisgen joined the ranks of RAP at some point in the mid to late 1890s, helping the club win the 1897–98 West Division, four points clear of second-place Sparta. In the national championship play-off against the Eastern champions Vitesse, he scored a hat-trick to help his side to a 4–2 victory, although some reports say that the four goals were all scored by Hisgen. HVV Den Haag
HVV (Haagse Voetbal Vereniging; Dutch for The Hague Football Club) is an amateur football club in The Hague, Netherlands. It was founded in 1883 as an extension of HCC, (The)'' Hague Cricket Club''. In 1978, on the occasion of the club's centenary, Queen Juliana granted the club royal patronage, with prefix ''Koninklijke'' ("Royal"), because of its pioneering role in sport, including in the formation of the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) in 1889. 1899 KNVB Cup Final
The 1899 KNVB Cup Final was a football match between Dutch clubs RAP Amsterdam, the reigning national champion, and HVV Den Haag, which took place on 9 May 1899 at Koekamp, Heemstede. It was the final match of the 1898–99 KNVB Cup, the 1st season of the annual Dutch national football cup competition. RAP won thanks to an extra-time goal from Jan Hisgen. Pre-match The final saw the reigning national champion from Amsterdam, RAP, face the then-best club from The Hague, HVV. The match was initially supposed to be played at the Hercules grounds in Utrecht, but that club is thrown off its grounds just before the final, which results in a hasty move to Heemstede. 1898–99 KNVB Cup
The 1898–99 KNVB Cup was the 1st staging of the KNVB Cup. The final was originally planned to be played in Utrecht on the Hercules ground, but it was later moved to Heemstede and played there on 7 May 1899. The cup winner was RAP Amsterdam, beating HVV Den Haag in the final. RAP not only became cup winners this season, but also national champions, making them the first Dutch double winner. Format All ties were played in one game, and if the result was a draw, two extra periods of 7½ minutes were played to determine the winner. If there was no winner after that, another extra period of two extra periods of 7½ minutes was played, and if there was still no decision after that, the game was replayed on the opponent's pitch.
