KKYX
KKYX (680 AM) is a classic country music radio station owned by Cox Media Group. It is licensed to, and headquartered in San Antonio, Texas. The station also carries play-by-play of the San Antonio Missions of the Texas League ( Minor League Baseball). Its studios are located in Northwest San Antonio near the South Texas Medical Center complex, and the transmitter site is in east Medina County, west of the city proper. KKYX morning personality Jerry King is also a member of the Country DJ Hall Of Fame. Jerry retired from KKYX in 2018 after a 53-year radio career. Of those 53 years, he worked for KKYX for 43 years. History Seguin Broadcasting Company, Inc., owners of KWED (1580 AM), filed a construction permit for a new radio station to broadcast on 105.3 MHz on September 15, 1969, which was granted by the FCC on December 31. Mendoza, Texas
Mendoza is an unincorporated community in Caldwell County, in the U.S. state of Texas. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 100 in 2000. It is located within the Greater Austin metropolitan area. History A post office was established at Mendoza in 1892 and remained in operation until 1911. Sources differ as to whether the community was named for Antonio de Mendoza or a local settler. The 1936 county highway map showed a church, a cemetery, an industrial site, several other businesses, and numerous homes in the community. Only one business was reported in the community in 1987. In the first quarter of the 20th century, Mendoza had a population of 200 residents. San Antonio Missions
The San Antonio Missions are a Minor League Baseball team of the Texas League and the Double-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres. They are located in San Antonio, Texas, and are named for the Spanish missions around which the city was founded. The Missions play their home games at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium, which opened in 1994 and seats over 6,200 people with a total capacity of over 9,000. Texas League
The Texas League is a Minor League Baseball league which has operated in the South Central United States since 1902. It is classified as a Double-A league. Despite the league's name, only its five South Division teams are actually based in the state of Texas; the five North Division teams are located in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. The league was founded in 1888 and ran through 1892. It was called the Texas Association in 1895, the Texas-Southern League in 1896, and again as the Texas League from 1897 to 1899. It was revived as a Class D league in 1902, moved to Class C in 1904 where it played through 1910 (except for 1906 as Class D again), played at Class B until 1920, and finally moved up to Class A in 1921. The South Texas Medical Center (STMC) or Bexar County Hospital District consists of of medical-related facilities on the northwest side of San Antonio, Texas, United States. STMC, which directly serves 38 counties, consists of forty-five medically related institutions; separate medical, dental and nursing schools, five higher educational institutions, twelve hospitals and five specialty institutions. These facilities combined currently total over 4,200 patient beds. In 2009, STMC was home to more than $350 million in construction projects.
