Jørn Goldstein
Jørn Irving Goldstein (born March 27, 1953) is a Norwegian Olympic ice hockey player. Biography Goldstein was born in Oslo, Norway, and is Jewish. His mother's family, surname Schapow, immigrated to Norway from Lithuania in the early 1900s. His father, Otto Goldstein, arrived in 1947 from Germany, a Holocaust survivor who survived and was liberated in World War II from Nazi Germany's concentration camps. The family eventually moved to Ila, Trondheim. As an 18-year old Goldstein joined Manglerud Star Ishockey, and became the team's goalkeeper. Goldstein played for the Norway men's national ice hockey team, Norwegian national ice hockey team, and participated at the Winter Olympics in 1984. He was awarded Gullpucken as best Norwegian ice hockey player in 1977. In 1983, Norwegian director Oddvar Bull Tuhus made a movie entitled ''Hockey Fever'', in which Goldstein has a central role. Oslo
Oslo ( , , or ; sma, Oslove) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. Gullpucken
Gullpucken ( translit. ''the Golden puck'') is awarded by the Norwegian Ice Hockey Federation (NIHF) to the best Norwegian ice hockey player each year. The award is subject to consideration which means it is not necessarily awarded every year. Its inception year was 1959, when Leif Solberg of Furuset became its first recipient. Patrick Thoresen was the last who received the award in 2009. The NIHF also awards the Valemon trophy to the best Norwegian female ice hockey player. It has been awarded twice, the last time was in 2003. Norwegian Jews
The history of Jews in Norway dates back to the 1400s. Although there were very likely Jewish merchants, sailors and others who entered Norway during the Middle Ages, no efforts were made to establish a Jewish community. Through the early modern period, Norway, still devastated by the Black Death, was ruled by Denmark from 1536 to 1814 and then by Sweden until 1905. In 1687, Christian V rescinded all Jewish privileges, specifically banning Jews from Norway, except with a special dispensation. Jews found in the kingdom were jailed and expelled, and this ban persisted until 1851. In 1814, when Norway gained independence from Denmark, the general ban against Jews entering the country was "continued" in the new Norwegian Constitution. Sephardim were exempt from the ban, but it appears that few applied for a letter of free passage. Oddvar Bull Tuhus (born 14 December 1940) is a Norwegian film director, script writer and television worker. His film debut was ''Rødblått paradis'' from 1971. His ''Maria Marusjka'' from 1973 was awarded the Norwegian Film Critics' Prize. His film ''Streik!'' from 1974, based on a novel by Tor Obrestad, was presented at the Cannes Film Festival.
