Jægerspris Castle ( da, Jægerspris Slot), in Jægerspris on the Hornsherred peninsula west of Copenhagen, is a Denmark, Danish manor house. It has belonged to the Danish monarchs for most of its history which dates back to the 13th century. In the 1850s it became a retreat for King Frederik VII of Denmark, Frederik VII and his Morganatic marriage, morganatic wife Louise Rasmussen, Countess Danner, who sought refuge there to escape the controversy their marriage had caused among the establishment in Copenhagen. After the king's death, Countess Danner turned it into an asylum for women. Today the castle serves as a historic house museum and is also noted for its park. It is not clear who Abraham was but the name is believed to be a reference to King Valdemar II of Denmark, Valdemar II's son Abel, King of Denmark, Abel since most of Hornsherred in the 12th century was owned by the king. in eastern Denmark. It is situated in Region Hovedstaden, 6 km northwest of Frederikssund, on the northern part of the island of Zealand (Denmark), Zealand (''Sjælland''). The town was established ca. 1870 around Jægerspris Castle, which is surrounded by kilometres of hiking and biking trails in the Jægerspris forest. It was the municipal seat of the former Jægerspris Municipality (Danish language, Danish, ''Municipalities of Denmark, Kommune''), until 1 January 2007.
