Justino De Azcárate
Justino de Azcárate y Flórez (23 August 1903 – 17 May 1989) was a Spanish lawyer and politician. He came from a wealthy family with a tradition of involvement in politics, and had republican but not left-wing opinions. He was a deputy in the Second Spanish Republic, an exile in Venezuela for 38 years after the Spanish Civil War, and then a Senator in Spain after the return to democracy. He played a significant role in easing the transition back to democracy. Origins Justino de Azcárate Flores was born in León, Spain, on 26 June 1903. He was from a prominent liberal intellectual family of León. His family was Basque in origin, but an ancestor who was an official in the King's Treasury had settled in León in 1690. His grandfather, Patricio de Azcárate, was governor of several provinces, translated the complete works of Plato and Aristotle, and also translated works of Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. Justino DÃaz (born January 29, 1940) is a Puerto Rican operatic bass-baritone. In 1963, DÃaz won an annual contest held at the Metropolitan Opera of New York, becoming the first Puerto Rican to obtain such an honor and as a consequence, made his Metropolitan debut in October 1963 in Verdi's ''Rigoletto'' as Monterone. Early years DÃaz was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the capital of the island, but lived and was raised in the town of Cataño. He attended Robinson Elementary School where, at the age of 8, he started to participate in the school's activities as a singer. In his first school play, when he was 10 years old, he sang the song "Old Black Joe", which became his favorite. After finishing his primary education, DÃaz attended the University of Puerto Rico High School in RÃo Piedras. On May 21, 2000, Pope John Paul II canonized a group of 25 saints and martyrs who had died in the Mexican Cristero War. The vast majority are Catholic priests who were executed for carrying out their ministry despite the suppression under the anti-clerical laws of Plutarco ElÃas Calles after the revolution in the 1920s. Justino 'Tining' R. Romea (Napo, Loon, April 17, 1934– 1985) was a Filipino composer, writer, director, musical arranger, poet and journalist. He composed the Awit sa Bohol or Bohol hymn and many school anthems. Biography Born in Napo, Loon, Bohol, who later settled in Maribojoc with his wife Jesusa Dalugdug (also from Napo) and family because they were able to acquire a property there. Romea taught at the Bohol School of Arts and Trades (BSAT) now CVSCAFT. Romea was commissioned to pen the Bohol Provincial Hymn. It was first sung publicly by a female choir of the College of Holy Spirit of Tagbilaran City on March 1, 1970, in time for the unfurling of the Bohol Flag during the opening ceremonies of the 1970 East Visayan Athletic Association held in Tagbilaran City.
