John Willis (basketball)
Johan Josef "John" Willis (born September 23, 1952) is an American-Israeli former basketball player. He played the guard position. He played for ten seasons in the Israeli Basketball Premier League, and also played for the Israeli national basketball team. Biography Willis attended Bloomsburg University ('74), and played for the Bloomsburg Huskies from 1971 to 1974. He holds school records for points in a game (48), rebounds in a season (389; 1973-74) and career field goal percentage (54.4). He also ranks fourth in school history in career rebounds (839), and sixth on the Huskies' all-time scoring list with 1,467 points. He was named to the 1972 and 1973 Eastern College Athletic Conference Basketball All-East Division Second Team. He was 1973-74 All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division First Team. Ligat HaAl ( he, ליגת העל, lit., ''Supreme League or Premier League''), or the Israeli Basketball Premier League, is the top-tier level league of professional competition in Israeli club basketball, making it Israel's primary basketball competition. Hapoel ( he, הפועל, lit. ''the worker'') is an Israeli Jewish sports association established in 1926 by the Histadrut Labor Federation. History During the British Mandate of Palestine period Hapoel had a bitter rivalry with Maccabi and organized its own competitions, with the exception of football, the only sport in which all the organizations played each other. Basketball at the 1984 Summer Olympics was the eleventh appearance of the sport of basketball as an official Olympic medal event. It took place at The Forum in Inglewood, California, United States from July 29 to August 10. The United States won the gold medal in both events, with the women's team's victory marking their first-ever gold medal. Due to the boycott, the Soviet Union and Hungary withdrew from the tournament. The former, having already qualified for both events was replaced by West Germany in the men's competition, while both nations' women's teams were replaced by Australia and South Korea. The Israel men's national basketball team ( he, נבחרת ישראל בכדורסל) represents Israel in international basketball tournaments. They are administered by the Israeli Basketball Association. Israel is currently ranked 33rd in the FIBA World Rankings. Israel has qualified for the EuroBasket 30 times throughout their history. They have also made two appearances at the World Cup, and one at the Summer Olympics. Israel also participated at the Asian Games from 1966 to 1974.
