John Mostyn (MP For Flintshire)
John Mostyn (died 1644) was a Welsh politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1625 and 1640. Mostyn was the son of Sir Roger Mostyn of Mostyn. In 1624 he was elected Member of Parliament for Anglesey. He was entered at Middle Temple in November 1637. In April 1640, Mostyn was elected MP for Flintshire in the Short Parliament. He was re-elected MP for Flintshire for the Long Parliament The Long Parliament was an English Parliament which lasted from 1640 until 1660. The House of Commons of England was the lower house of the Parliament of England (which incorporated Wales) from its development in the 14th century to the union of England and Scotland in 1707, when it was replaced by the House of Commons of Great Britain after the 1707 Act of Union was passed in both the English and Scottish parliaments at the time. In 1801, with the union of Great Britain and Republic of Ireland, Ireland, that house was in turn replaced by the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. Personal Rule
The Personal Rule (also known as the Eleven Years' Tyranny) was the period from 1629 to 1640, when King Charles I of England, Scotland and Ireland ruled without recourse to Parliament. The King claimed that he was entitled to do this under the Royal Prerogative. Charles had already dissolved three Parliaments by the third year of his reign in 1628. After the murder of George Villiers, Duke of Buckingham, who was deemed to have a negative influence on Charles' foreign policy, Parliament began to criticize the king more harshly than before. Charles then realized that, as long as he could avoid war, he could rule without Parliament. Names Whig historians such as S. R. Gardiner called this period the "Eleven Years' Tyranny", because they interpret Charles's actions as authoritarian and a contributing factor to the instability that led to the English Civil War. Sir Sackville Trevor (c. 1565–1633) was a Welsh sea captain and politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1625. Sackville Trevor was son of John Trevor of Trevalyn, Denbighshire, and the brother of Sir Richard Trevor, Sir John Trevor and Sir Thomas Trevor. Richard Williams was a Welsh landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1621 to 1622. Williams was the elder son of William ap Shon ap John ap Gruffydd of Rhosygeido.
