John Lang (priest)
John Harley Lang (27 October 19273 June 2012) was an Anglican priest in the second half of the 20th century. Lang was educated at Merchant Taylors' and trained for the priesthood at King's College London. After National Service with the 12th Royal Lancers he was ordained in 1952. Following a curacy at the large city parish of St Mary's, Portsea, Portsmouth he was Priest Vicar of Southwark Cathedral then Chaplain of Emmanuel College, Cambridge. From 1963 until 1980 he worked in religious broadcasting for the BBC. Finally he was Dean of Lichfield for 13 years. A & C Black is a British book publishing company, owned since 2002 by Bloomsbury Publishing. The company is noted for publishing '' Who's Who'' since 1849. It also published popular travel guides and novels. History The firm was founded in 1807 by Charles and Adam Black in Edinburgh. In 1851, the company purchased the copyrights to Sir Walter Scott's ''Waverly'' novels for £27,000. The company moved to the Soho district of London in 1889. During the years 1827–1903 the firm published the seventh, eighth and ninth editions of the ''Encyclopædia Britannica''. This was purchased from Archibald Constable after his company's failure to publish the seventh edition of the encyclopedia. Adam Black retired in 1870 due to his disapproval of his sons' extravagant plans for its ninth edition. George Holderness
George Edward Holderness (5 March 1913 – 21 October 1987) was an Anglican bishop. He was born in 1913 and educated at Leeds Grammar School and Keble College, Oxford. Ordained in 1936, he began his career with a curacy at Bedale and was then Chaplain at Aysgarth School until 1947, a period interrupted by World War II service as a Chaplain to the Forces. He was then Vicar of St Cuthbert's Church, Darlington and for 15 years suffragan Bishop of Burnley in the Diocese of Blackburn. In 1970 he left Burnley to become Dean of Lichfield Lichfield () is a cathedral city and civil parish in Staffordshire, England. Lichfield Cathedral is an Anglican cathedral in Lichfield, Staffordshire, England, one of only three cathedrals in the United Kingdom with three spires (together with Truro Cathedral and St Mary's Cathedral in Edinburgh), and the only medieval one of the three.
