John Getz
John William Getz (born October 15, 1946) is an American character actor. After starting his acting career on stage, he has appeared in numerous television series and films. Personal life Getz, one of four children, was born in Davenport, Iowa, and grew up in the Mississippi River Valley. He began acting while attending the University of Iowa, where he helped found the Center for New Performing Arts. He has a daughter, Hannah, from his marriage to playwright Grace McKeaney. Career Getz dropped out of college to attend the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. While working in a winery, he helped found the Theater Company in Napa County, California. His location in the grape-growing Napa Valley led to Getz's television debut in a made-for-television horror film '' Killer Bees'' (1974). ''MacGruder and Loud'' is an American crime drama from Aaron Spelling Productions that aired on ABC from January 20 to April 30, 1985. Premise The series stars John Getz and Kathryn Harrold as married police officers Malcolm MacGruder and Jenny Loud in a Los Angeles Police Department-styled police agency (where strict anti-fraternization policies were in effect). They fought a battle every day to keep it a closely guarded secret from their boss, Sgt. Hanson (played by veteran actor Lee de Broux). ''Playmaker'' (also known as ''Private Teacher'' and ''Death Date'') is a drama/mystery/thriller film starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Rubin, directed by Yuri Zeltser. The film was released in 1994. Background The film stars Colin Firth as Ross Talbert/Michael Condren and Jennifer Rubin as Jamie Harris. Others in the film included John Getz as Eddie, Jeff Perry as Allen, Arthur Taxier as Detective Chassman, Dean Norris as Detective Marconi, Belinda Waymouth as Angie and Diane Robin as Terry. Originally, producer Peter Samuelson saw two people standing on a corner holding a sign "looking for money for movie" to turn their screenplay into a feature film. Their story was used as a basic for the Playmaker screenplay. Playmaker commenced production in August 1993, many months and several re-writes after the initial screenplay was obtained by Samuelson.
