John Bennett (actor)
John David Bennett (8 May 1928 – 11 April 2005) was an English actor. Early life Born in Beckenham, Kent to Alfred Bennett and Bessie Bennett (née Rudnidsky), he was educated at Bradfield College in Berkshire, then trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama, followed by a wide repertory theatre experience including Bromley, Bristol Old Vic, Dundee, the Edinburgh Festival and Watford before going to London's West End. He was Jewish. Career Often cast as a villain, he had many roles on television including ''Market in Honey Lane'', ''Porridge'', '' Survivors'', '' The Avengers'', '' Strange Report'', '' Bergerac'', '' The Professionals'' and four episodes of '' The Saint''He guest-starred in two ''Doctor Who'' serials, as General Finch in '' Invasion of the Dinosaurs'' (1974) and as the Chinese magician Li H'sen Chang in '' The Talons of Weng-Chiang'' (1977). Beckenham
Beckenham () is a town in Greater London, England, within the London Borough of Bromley, in Greater London. Until 1965 it was part of the historic county of Kent. It is located south-east of Charing Cross, situated north of Elmers End and Eden Park, east of Penge, south of Lower Sydenham and Bellingham, and west of Bromley and Shortlands. Its population at the 2011 census counted 46,844 inhabitants. Beckenham was, until the coming of the railway in 1857, a small village, with most of its land being rural and private parkland. ''Market in Honey Lane'' was an ATV British television weekly series, which switched to a twice weekly soap opera format (shown at varying times around the ITV regions) after the first year. It was broadcast between April 1967 and March 1969. This cockney drama was set in an East London street market and covered the traders and customers. It was created by Louis Marks.
