John Aldrich (political Scientist)
John Herbert Aldrich (born 1947) is an American political scientist and author, known for his research and writings on American politics, elections, and political parties, and on formal theory and methodology in political science. Aldrich graduated with a B.A. in political science from Allegheny College in 1969. He attended graduate school at the University of Rochester, completing an M.A. in 1971 and a PhD degree in 1975. Aldrich taught at Michigan State University from 1974 to 1981 and at the University of Minnesota from 1981 to 1987, when he joined the faculty at Duke University as a professor of political science. Aldrich won the Heinz Eulau Award in 1990 for the best article in the ''American Political Science Review''. His book ''Why Parties?'' (1995) received the Gladys Kammerer Award from the American Political Science Association for the best book on U.S. national politics. John Merton Aldrich
John Merton Aldrich (January 28, 1866 – May 27, 1934) was an American entomologist. Aldrich was the Associate Curator of Insects at the United States National Museum. He is considered one of the most prolific entomologists in the study of flies. Biography John Merton Aldrich was born in Rochester, Minnesota on January 28, 1866. When he was fifteen, he moved with his family to a farm in South Dakota. He enrolled at South Dakota State University and graduated in 1888, one year early because the university president wanted to have a graduating class that year. He studied entomology briefly under Otto Lugger at the University of Minnesota and then started working at the South Dakota State Agricultural Experiment Station with the understanding that he would continue to study entomology in the winter. John Warren Aldrich
John Warren Aldrich (February 23, 1906 – May 3, 1995) was an American ornithologist. Biography Aldrich was born on February 23, 1906, in Providence, Rhode Island. He went to Providence public schools, and got a BS degree in biology from Brown University, in 1928. In 1923 in ''Bird-Lore'' he published his first wor"Mocking Bird in Rhode Island" which became very popular among Rhode Islanders interested in bird-watching. While attending Brown University, he joined a swimming team there, and set a record for the whole school on 200-yard breaststroke. He was a nature counselor at Camp Chewonki, in Maine. After graduating from Brown University, he attended Buffalo Museum of Science, which had just been built. There he served as an aide and assistant. While working there, he met Roger Tory Peterson, then an art student from Jamestown, New York.
