A hypocorism ( or ; from Ancient Greek: (), from (), 'to call by pet names', sometimes also ''hypocoristic'') or pet name is a name used to show affection for a person. It may be a diminutive form of a person's name, such as '' Izzy'' for Isabel or '' Bob'' for Robert, or it may be unrelated. In linguistics, the term can be used more specifically to refer to the morphological process by which the standard form of the word is transformed into a form denoting affection, or to words resulting from this process. In English, a word is often clipped down to a closed monosyllable and then suffixed with ''-y/-ie'' (phonologically /i/). Sometimes the suffix ''-o'' is included as well as other forms or templates. Jody Harris
Jody Harris is an American guitarist, singer, songwriter and composer who was born in Kansas and became a central figure in the seminal no wave scene in New York City in the 1970s. Career history Harris was lead guitarist in the Contortions, an influential No Wave band. He was also a key member of a number of bands that emerged from the no wave scene, including the Raybeats and the Golden Palominos. Harris has also recorded as a solo artist and with guitarist Robert Quine. In 1977, he joined Quine in a band backing rock critic Lester Bangs on Bangs' 7" single, ''Let It Blurt'', produced by John Cale. He was also briefly a member of the Voidoids and played on many recordings by a wide range of artists, including Matthew Sweet, Syd Straw, Kip Hanrahan and John Zorn. Joel Dee "Jody" McCrea (September 6, 1934 – April 4, 2009) was an American actor. He was the son of actors Joel McCrea and Frances Dee. Early life McCrea was born in Los Angeles, California, the son of actors Joel McCrea and Frances Dee. He was the oldest of three sons. McCrea went to school in Santa Rosa, California, and at New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, New Mexico. He studied drama at UCLA and served in the United States Army Special Services. Jody McBrayer (born June 25, 1970) is an American singer/songwriter and a member of Christian pop groups Cana's Voice and Avalon. Career McBrayer attended college at Liberty University. He got his start in contemporary Christian music right out of college in 1992 as a member of the vocal group Truth. In 1994, McBrayer was a vocalist in Ray Conniff's Latin America tour. In 1995, McBrayer joined the Christian contemporary group Avalon. Jody Lloyd is a New Zealand electronica and hip-hop musician and record producer from Christchurch. He is the brother of Cloudboy vocalist Demarnia Lloyd, and the two siblings have frequently appeared on each other's recordings. Jody Lehman
Jody Lehman (born 1 July 1975 in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Canada) is a retired Canadian-British professional ice hockey player, most recently playing for Lloydminster Border Kings. Playing career He began playing for the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League in 1991-92, and stayed there until the 1995-96 season when he moved to the Brandon Wheat Kings (also of the WHL). Following this season he moved on to the Wichita Thunder of the Central Hockey League, before his move to the South Carolina Stingrays for the 1998-99 season. This was a successful spell for Lehman, who in his 4 seasons for South Carolina won a Kelly Cup (2000–01) and also received a call up to the Rochester Americans of the AHL. Jody Lavender (born December 29, 1979) is an American stock car racing driver. He formerly competed in the NASCAR Camping World East Series. He was born in Hartsville, South Carolina. Racing history Lavender only competed in one Busch Series race, in a family-owned No. 08 Ford. He started 34th in 2003 at Darlington, and finished 23rd, two laps down. He made his debut in the Craftsman Truck Series in a one-race deal in 2002, driving for Troxell Racing. Starting last at Richmond, he managed to improve to 33rd in the race after a rear end gear let go. Lavender was picked up by Green Light Racing, and ran 21 of the 25 races in 2003.
