Jerningham Wakefield
Edward Jerningham Wakefield (25 June 1820 – 3 March 1879), known as Jerningham Wakefield, was the only son of Edward Gibbon Wakefield. As such, he was closely associated with his father's interest in colonisation. He worked for the New Zealand Company and later was a member of the Canterbury Association. He was active as a politician in New Zealand, both at national and provincial level, but became an alcoholic and died penniless in an old people's home. Early life Wakefield was born in London in 1820. His parents were Edward Gibbon Wakefield and Eliza Anne Frances Pattle, but his mother died within days of his birth. Together with his sister Nina, he was mostly brought up by Catherine Torlesse, his father's sister and mother of Charles Torlesse. Wakefield was known by his middle name and educated at Bruce Castle School and King's College London. Henry Jerningham
Sir Henry Jerningham KB (1509/10 – 6 September 1572) was an English courtier during the Tudor period. He was a Gentleman Pensioner during the reign of Henry VIII. In the succession crisis of 1553 he was one of the foremost supporters of Mary Tudor, and after her accession was one of her most trusted servants, being appointed Vice-Chamberlain of the Household, Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard, and a member of the Privy Council. Family Henry Jerningham was the son of Edward Jerningham (died 6 January 1515) of Somerleyton, Suffolk, and Mary Scrope (died 15 August 1548), in her first marriage. Henry Stafford-Jerningham, 9th Baron Stafford
Henry Valentine Stafford-Jerningham, 9th Baron Stafford DL (2 January 1802 – 30 November 1884), known as Henry Jerningham until 1824 and styled The Honourable Henry Stafford-Jerningham between 1824 and 1851, was a British peer and politician. Background Stafford was the son of George Stafford-Jerningham, 8th Baron Stafford, and Frances Henrietta Sulyarde, daughter of Edward Sulyarde of Haughley Park. His father had succeeded as seventh Baronet of Costessey in 1809. After his mother's death in 1832, his father married Elizabeth Caton, second daughter Richard Caton and Mary Carroll Caton (a daughter of Charles Carroll of Carrollton). In 1821, Henry was admitted to Magdalene College, Cambridge. Hubert Jerningham
Sir Hubert Edward Henry Jerningham, (18 October 1842 – 3 April 1914) was a British Liberal Party politician and Governor of Mauritius 1892–1897, then Governor of Trinidad and Tobago between 1897 and 1900. Biography Jerningham was great-grandson of Sir William Jerningham, 6th Baronet and Member of Parliament (MP) for Berwick-upon-Tweed from 1881 to 1885. He was appointed the 17th Governor of Mauritius, from 21 September 1892 to 15 January 1897, having been previously acting in the role from 12 March 1892 to 20 September 1892. In June 1897 he was appointed Governor of Trinidad and Tobago, serving as such until December 1900. While he was Governor, the Trinidad Government Railway was extended from Cunupia to Tabaquite. The railway junction formed by this extension was named Jerningham Junction.
