Jeremy Theobald
Jeremy Theobald is a British actor best known for his portrayal of "The Young Man", the main character in Christopher Nolan's 1998 major picture debut ''Following'', and for which Theobald was also a producer. Filming was scheduled around their day jobs. Jonathan Romney, writing in the '' New Statesman'', noted that "Nolan and his cast are terrific finds: I wouldn't normally say this to struggling artists, but they might want to give up their day jobs." Theobald also appeared in ''Larceny'', a short film shot by Nolan while in the UCLU Film Society, and '' Doodlebug'', another short film by Nolan. Theobald also had a small role as the "Younger Gotham Water Board Technician" in the Nolan feature ''Batman Begins''. Christopher Edward Nolan (born 30 July 1970) is a British-American filmmaker. ''Following'' is a 1998 independent neo-noir crime thriller film written, produced, edited and directed by Christopher Nolan. It tells the story of a young man who follows strangers around the streets of London and is drawn into a criminal underworld when he fails to keep his distance. As Nolan's debut feature, it was designed to be as inexpensive as possible to make. Scenes were heavily rehearsed so that just one or two takes were needed to economise on 16mm film stock, the production's greatest expense, and for which Nolan was paying from his salary. Unable to afford expensive professional lighting equipment, Nolan mostly used available light. Along with writing, directing, and photographing the film, Nolan also helped in editing and production. The ''New Statesman'' is a British political and cultural magazine published in London. Founded as a weekly review of politics and literature on 12 April 1913, it was at first connected with Sidney and Beatrice Webb and other leading members of the socialist Fabian Society, such as George Bernard Shaw, who was a founding director. ''Doodlebug'' is a 1997 short psychological thriller film written and directed by Christopher Nolan. It follows the story of a man anxiously trying to kill a bug-like creature in his flat. Nolan created the film during his university days using 16 mm film. The film was met with a generally positive critical response. Plot The story concerns a dishevelled man in a filthy flat. He is anxious and paranoid, trying to kill a small bug-like creature that is scurrying on the floor.
