Jane Gail
Jane Gail (August 16, 1890 – January 30, 1963), born Ethel S. Magee in Salem, New York, was an early American silent movie and stage actress. Biography Gail is best remembered for her role in the silent film ''Traffic in Souls'' (1913), and the adaptations of '' Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde'' (1913), where she gained worldwide fame as Dr. Jekyll's (King Baggot) imperiled fiancée. She also appeared in the 1912 version of ''Jekyll and Hyde'', but as an extra. A veteran of 19 film appearances between 1912 and 1920, Gail first got her acting start on the Broadway stage, appearing in two productions, ''The Rack'' and ''The City''. She was only 30 years old when she made her last film, '' Bitter Fruit'' (1920). She never appeared on the silver screen after that. Gail died in St. Petersburg, Florida, on January 30, 1963. 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea (1916 Film)
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is a 1916 American silent film directed by Stuart Paton. The film's storyline is based on the 1870 novel ''Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea'' by Jules Verne. It also incorporates elements from Verne's 1875 novel ''The Mysterious Island''. On May 4, 2010, a new print of the film was shown accompanied by a live performance of an original score by Stephin Merritt at the Castro Theatre, as part of the San Francisco International Film Festival. In 2016, the film was deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" by the United States Library of Congress, and selected for its National Film Registry. Plot A strange "sea monster" has been rampaging the seas. The United States sends the naval vessel ''Abraham Lincoln'' to investigate. ''Rupert of Hentzau'' is a 1915 British adventure film of the silent era. It was directed by George Loane Tucker and starred Henry Ainley, Jane Gail and Gerald Ames. It was based on the 1898 novel ''Rupert of Hentzau'' by Anthony Hope, the sequel to ''The Prisoner of Zenda'' (1894). It tells the story of the journey of an Englishmen to Ruritania in Eastern Europe where he is forced to impersonate a King to thwart the plans of a villainous aristocrat Rupert of Hentzau. It was released in the United States in 1916, which sometimes leads to it being attributed to that year. It was later re-released in 1918 at the end of the First World War. It is believed to be a lost film, no longer known to exist in any studio archives, private collections or public archives such as the Library of Congress.
