James Oakes (historian)
James Oakes (born December 19, 1953) is an American historian, and is a Distinguished Professor of History and Graduate School Humanities Professor at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York where he teaches history courses on the American Civil War and Reconstruction, Slavery, the Old South, Abolitionism and U.S. and World History. Jimmy Oakes
James Oakes (5 November 1902 – 7 November 1992) was an English Association football, footballer who played as a Defender (association football), full-back. Noted for his clean play, he turned professional at Port Vale F.C., Port Vale in November 1923. He played at The Old Recreation Ground for ten years, helping the "Valiants" to top the Football League Third Division North, Third Division North in 1929–30. He was sold on to Charlton Athletic F.C., Charlton Athletic for £3,000 in January 1933. He helped the "Addicks" to the Football League Third Division South, Third Division South title in 1934–35, promotion out of the Football League Second Division, Second Division in 1935–36, and then second place in the Football League First Division, First Division in 1936–37. His career was ended by the outbreak of World War II.
