James Henry Cecil Hozier, 2nd Baron Newlands (4 April 1851 – 5 September 1929) was a Scottish civil servant, diplomat and politician.James Henry Cecil Hozier Newlands (2d Baron). In 1880, he married Lady Mary Louisa Wellesley Cecil, a daughter of the 3rd Marquess of Exeter. He served as a Third Secretary in the Diplomatic Service from 1876, as Diplomatic Secretary at the Constantinople Conference, 1876–1877, and as Private Secretary to the Marquess of Salisbury while he was Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs from 1878 to 1880 and again as Prime Minister from 1885 to 1886. Baron Newlands
Baron Newlands, of Newlands and Barrofield in the County of the City of Glasgow and of Mauldslie Castle in the County of Lanark, was a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 19 January 1898 for the soldier Sir William Hozier, 1st Baronet. He had already been created a baronet in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom in 1890. He was succeeded by his only son James, the second Baron, who had represented Lanarkshire South in the House of Commons and served as Lord-Lieutenant of Lanarkshire. He was childless, and the titles became extinct on his death on 5 September 1929. Lieutenant-Colonel the Honourable Charles Maule Ramsay (27 January 1859 – 7 April 1936) was a British army officer and briefly a Liberal Unionist Member of Parliament (MP). Personal life He was the youngest son of the 12th Earl of Dalhousie, an admiral in the Royal Navy, and his wife Sarah née Roberts. He obtained a commission as an officer in the Royal Artillery, but retired from the army at a young age. He moved to the United States where he took up ranching, and married in 1885 Martha Estelle Garrison, of New York, granddaughter of C. K. Garrison. He later unsuccessfully took part in the Klondike Gold Rush in the Yukon Territory. He returned to Scotland where he became an officer in the Forfarshire and Kincardineshire Artillery Militia. He was a major landlord in the area having inherited a large estate in Forfarshire.
