James Duncan (musician)
James Duncan (born November 12, 1968) is a Canadian musician, producer and trumpet player originally from Toronto, Ontario, now living in Brooklyn, NY. As a producer, he has recorded under his own name, releasing solo 12" singles on labels such as Dancetracks (NY), London's Real Soon Records and West Norwood Cassette Library (WNCL) and his own imprint, Le Systeme Records, which he founded in 1999. He has recorded and performed as a trumpet player with respected dance music artists Metro Area, Kelley Polar and Morgan Geist, all on Environ Records. He also appeared on The Rapture's "House of Jealous Lovers" 12" single (Morgan Geist Remix) on DFA Records. Resident Advisor named Metro Area's debut CD, which he played trumpet on, the 2nd Best Album of the 2000s and The Rapture's "House of Jealous Lovers" was rated 16th and 6th respectively on Pitchfork Media and '' NME''s Top Tracks of the 2000s lists. Rhys Chatham
Rhys Chatham (born September 19, 1952) is an American composer, guitarist, trumpet player, multi-instrumentalist (flutes in C, alto and bass, keyboard), primarily active in avant-garde and minimalism, minimalist music. He is best known for his "guitar orchestra" compositions. He has lived in France since 1987. Early years Chatham began his musical career as a piano tuner for avant-garde pioneer La Monte Young as well as harpsichord tuner for Gustav Leonhardt, Rosalyn Tureck and Glenn Gould. He studied flute under Sue Ann Kahn, with whom he first encountered contemporary music, and studied soon afterwards under electronic music pioneer Morton Subotnick and minimalist icon La Monte Young and was a member of Young's group, ''The Theater of Eternal Music'', during the early seventies; Chatham also played with Tony Conrad in an early version of Conrad's group, ''The Dream Syndicate''. Nublu Club
The Nublu Club is a club in East Village, Manhattan, New York, that was opened in 2002 by Swedish-Turkish saxophonist Ilhan Ersahin. On its 10th anniversary the club's namesake festival presented what it calls the Nublu Sound, a combination of jazz, African, South American, Caribbean, electronic, and dance music. Among the bands associated with Nublu are The Brazilian Girls, Forro in the Dark, Love Trio, and Wax Poetic.
